A significant funding boost of over half a million euros has been allocated to 19 community groups to undertake climate action projects across Galway city.
Galway City Council has awarded funding of €560,242 under the Community Climate Action Fund to work towards a more sustainable future, reducing the impact of climate change.&nbsp;
These projects range from rooftop gardens and electric vehicle (EV) charging points to solar panel installations and energy efficiency upgrades. The funds are part of a wider programme aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and climate resilience in the region.

<h4>Small Projects (€0 - €20,000)</h4>
Galway City Partnership has been granted €20,000 to develop a Rooftop Vegetable Garden and retrofit buildings with energy-efficient LED lighting.&nbsp;
Cope Galway will install an EV Charging Point at its Community Catering facility with a grant of €1,760, contributing to Galway’s transition to clean energy transportation and supporting the organisation’s sustainability goals.
The Galway Cycling Campaign is launching a Family Bike Hire Scheme, thanks to a grant of €6,000. This initiative is aimed at promoting active travel by offering families affordable and accessible biking options.
Link Galway CLG will receive €10,640 for the Cafe Link Sustainability Upgrade, improving energy efficiency and reducing the environmental footprint.
A grant of €6,000 has been awarded to Shining Light for its Cycle for Justice Bike Share Scheme.

<h4>Medium Projects (€20,000 - €51,000)</h4>
The Salthill Handball Club has been awarded €25,500 to carry out an Energy Upgrade of its building. This will significantly reduce the club’s carbon footprint and improve energy efficiency.
Cancer Care West is launching a Climate Action Program with a grant of €43,000, focusing on integrating sustainability into their healthcare services and raising awareness on environmental issues within the community.
The Westside Resource Centre has secured €21,000 for The Solar Roof Project which will see the installation of solar panels to provide renewable energy for the centre.
St. Patrick’s Band Hall has been awarded €33,000 for The Band Room Renewable Energy &amp; Sustainable Living Project which aims to incorporate renewable energy solutions and promote sustainable practices.
Ballybane Community Centre will receive €21,000 to provide Solar Panels, furthering its commitment to energy efficiency and renewable energy use.
The Renmore Development Association has been granted €35,000 to establish the Ballyloughane Organic Community Garden. This initiative will create a green space for organic farming and community activities, contributing to local biodiversity and sustainability efforts.

<h4>Large Projects (€51,000 - €100,000)</h4>
The largest grants were awarded to projects making substantial contributions to community resilience and sustainability. St. Joseph’s Community Centre Ltd has secured €51,000 for the Climate Change Resilience Project, which will implement a range of measures to make the centre more resilient to climate impacts.
No. 4 Youth Service has been awarded €64,900 to upgrade its energy systems and promote Planetary Health, making the centre a leader in energy efficiency and environmental education for young people.
Salthill Knocknacarra GAA Club will receive €51,000 for a Sustainable Energy Transformation and Active Travel project, combining energy efficiency upgrades with initiatives to encourage cycling and walking.
The 1st Port of Galway Sea Scouts has been granted €56,090 for their Off-Grid Scout Den Project, moving towards energy independence and environmental sustainability.

<h4>Shared Island Funding</h4>
In cross-border collaboration, the Shared Island Funding initiative awarded €114,352 to four climate action projects involving two community groups in Galway city and two in Co. Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.
The Nature Without Borders project, which includes Tuatha of Terryland Forest Park, Galway City and Friends of Little Woods, Co. Fermanagh, will receive €23,980. This initiative will foster collaboration between these regions, promoting biodiversity and habitat preservation across the border.
Additionally, the DRA Family Resource Centre, Doughiska, Galway City and ARC Healthy Living Centre, Irvinestown, Co. Fermanagh have been awarded €90,372 for the Galway and Fermanagh Climate Action Project.&nbsp;

“Projects have been awarded in all areas of the city with some innovative projects including an off grid scout den, bike library schemes, a native tree nursery and various large scale solar panel projects. Galway City Council believe that this fund can be used as a springboard for further community climate actions and we look forward to working with the individual projects.’’
