Exciting Refurbishment Plans at the Galway Bay Hotel

~2 minutes read

It's an exciting time at the Galway Bay Hotel, as significant interior refurbishments are underway, and due to be completed at the end of the year. As the busy summer season comes to a close, the popular hotel is preparing for a new chapter.

Having enjoyed another successful season, despite the unpredictable Irish weather, Managing Director, Dan Murphy, is looking forward to the completion of a revamp of the hotel restaurant, which is taking place at the popular Salthill venue.

"It's a really exciting time at the hotel for a number of reasons," he explains.

"We are commencing a programme of refurbishment throughout the hotel, including our main restaurant, where guests have breakfast and dinner. We're spending significantly on refurbishing it and it will have the same look and feel as our recently refurbished casual dining area, Pier 56. We will rebrand and relaunch it at the end of the year, and it will be really nice."

A Season of Success, Rain or Shine

Reflecting on the recent season, Dan says that Salthill remains a popular destination for families.

"Salthill is always a very popular family leisure destination; there's a lot to do here; The Aquarium, Seapoint Amusements, Leisureland, and all the other great things that attract people," he says.

"People swim in the sea, all day, every day, regardless of sun, rain, or even snow. In short, it's been a good season."

While family-focused holidays have been central to the summer months, the hotel is now gearing up for a new direction, shifting its focus to a different clientele.

New Season Ahead

Looking ahead, Dan reveals that the Galway Bay Hotel is moving into different markets for autumn/winter.

“We’re entering a new type of season; we're moving away from the family leisure market and focusing more on conferences and corporate events,” he explains.

“It’s also an opportunity for retired and semi-retired people to get away. We have great deals in all those areas. We're very fortunate with our ongoing wedding business and local functions, without ever taking it for granted.”

Exciting Times Ahead

As the hotel looks towards the final months of 2024, Dan is confident that guests will have much to look forward to.

“By the end of the year—since we're in September now, that’s only four months away—there’s a lot to look forward to at the Galway Bay Hotel,” he says.
