Named after its architect, Alexander Nimmo, and built this impressive pier has well executed coursed battered limestone walls and is an engineering structure of outstanding quality. This long pier stretches out into Galway Bay and is a favourite walking route for Galway residents. It is alongside South Park (The Swamp).. The walk to the top of the pier, is a very enjoyable one. Apart from great views across the Claddagh Basin, the long walk, the mouth of the Corrib and Galway Bay, it is a favoured spot for bird watchers, with many species of gull especially making regular appearances and a few swans almost always waiting to be photographed!
