Hold on to your sandwich! Herring Gulls are an extremely common sight in Galway. In fact, it’s almost impossible not to see one when strolling through Eyre Square. They are notorious for their loud, incessant squawking and tendency to snatch lunches from the hands of passersby! Herring Gulls, commonly known as seagulls, are prolific in the city all year round. Their size, webbed feet, white breast, grey plumage, and yellow bill make them impossible to mistake with any other common seabird in Galway. As both predators and scavengers, they have flexible diets, feeding on everything from molluscs and fish to bird carcasses and rubbish.
