'The Tribune' by Gerald Dawe was unveiled on the facade of the Connacht Tribune building in 2013 by Mayor Terry Flaherty and Gerald Dawe. The poem encapsulates the life of a provincial newspaper where "news that travels is never late". Gerald Dawe is an Irish poet and writer, born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1952. He has published eight collections of poetry with The Gallery Press and four volumes of essays as well as editing various anthologies of poetry and literary criticism. He was Professor of English and Fellow of Trinity College, Dublin until his retirement in 2017.
