An extract from Walter Macken's 'Rain On The Wind' was unveiled on the benches near the Claddagh Hall in 2007. This poem evocatively describes how the sunset changes the colours and atmosphere of the houses on Long Walk, just across the river. It was unveiled by the author’s son, Fr. Walter Macken together with Niall Ó Brolcháin, Mayor of Galway and it was sponsored by David Niland. Walter Macken (May 3, 1915 - April 22, 1967), was born in Galway City. He was a writer of short stories, novels and plays.
