Revealed: reason why Mitchelstown water waste plant delayed

The delay in the Mitchelstown waste water treatment plant project was caused by the need for new equipment which was not in the original plan. 

In documents, obtained by The Avondhu, an apparently ill judged plan to refurbish rather than replace Trickling Filters (TFs) is to blame for the delayed construction work, which has previously met with condemnation from councillors in North Cork. 

Local "raging" over GP sick note charges

Rathcormac resident Gerard O’Sullivan, says he is ‘raging’ over being charged €20 for a medical certificate.

According to Gerard, his wife, who had taken ill, placed a phone call to the doctor in order to get a sick note. Despite having a Medical Card, she was charged for the sick note which was required to take absence from her workplace. 

Local GP's refuse to give Covid-19 test refferal

The Avondhu was contacted by an individual during the week who had been declined a Covid-19 test referral from local general practitioners.

The individual said they had begun to experience Covid-19 symptoms and reached out to nearby GPs to get a referral for a Covid-19 test but to no avail. 

Betty's retirement marked in Kildorrery

Kildorrery NS bid farewell to one of its most experienced staff members recently. On October 23, the staff and children said their final ‘slán’ to Mrs Betty O’Connell, a Castletownroche native.

Mrs O’Connell had been teaching in Kildorrery for over eight years and her 35 years carrer was spent in Donegal, Ballyhooly, Ballindangan and Graigue also. 

Southdoc AGM motions rais questions re future of Fermoy centre

New motions passed at the SouthDoc Board of Directors AGM could see the Fermoy SouthDoc Treatment Centre put under significant pressure as as many as one-third of doctors will no longer be able to participate.

These motions state that pregnant doctors and doctors on maternity leave should be excluded from SouthDoc rotas, and that doctors over 60 years of age should be excluded from rotas and SouthDoc should pay for the locum.
