Windmill Lane Studios were opened in 1978 by the recording engineer Brian Masterson at the original location of 22 Windmill Lane in the Dublin Docklands. The site there is a popular cult symbol for music fans as U2 made full and partial recordings for some of their most famous albums including Boy, The Joshua Tree and Zooropa. Van Morrison , Sinead O’Connor, Elvis Costello and Clannad also recorded there. In 1988 the studio relocated to 20 Ringsend Road. It still operates as one of the largest recording studios in Ireland, and is one of the only two studios (Raidió Teilifís Éireann being the other) that can record an 80 piece orchestra. Famous scores for movies have been recorded here such as Mission Impossible, remains of the Day, The Mask and A River Runs Through It. Pulse College took over Windmill Lane Recording Studios in 2009 and updated the studios which are still in commercial use. The college operates as a multi-media hub that offers training in Film Production, Music Production and Game Studies.
