Phil Lynott was the frontman and bass player of Irish hard rock band Thin Lizzy . They formed in 1969 and had much loved international hits such as The Boys Are Back in Town, Waiting for an Alibi, Dancing in the Moonlight and their cover of the old Irish ballad Whiskey in the Jar. Lynott was born in England and raised by his grandparents in Dublin. He remained close to his mother, Philomena, throughout his life. He was the first black Irishman to achieve commercial success in the field of rock music. Phil Lynott sadly passed away in 1986 from complications due to a drug overdose. He is lovingly remembered by Dubliners, Irish people and his Rock n Roll fans from all over the world. In 2005 a statue of Phil Lynott by sculptor, Paul Daly, was unveiled just outside Bruxelle's, famously known as one of Phil Lynott's favourite pubs.
