O’Donoghue’s is a famous pub known for it’s close association with the Irish Traditional Music scene. The Dubliners, a renowned Irish folk band, began to perform here in the 1960s before forming in 1962. Portraits of the 5 original founding members - Luke Kelly, Ronnie Drew, Ciarán Bourke, John Sheahan and Barney McKenna are displayed on the walls as well as later members Eamonn Campbell and Seán Cannon. Many other notable musicians have performed in the pub. Phil Lynott, Christy Moore, The Fureys and Séamus Ennis are amongst the famous artists who have played in O’Donoghue’s. The pub was originally built as a grocery store in 1789. The O’Donoghue family bought it in 1934 and it began operating as a full time pub. Oliver Barden is the present proprietor.
