GLASNEVIN CEMETERY Opened in 1832, Glasnevin is described as Ireland’s ‘national’ cemetery covering 124 acres (over 50 hectares) of glorious parkland; where over 1.6 million people have been laid to rest including the iconic Brendan Behan and Luke Kelly. Open since 2010, Glasnevin Cemetery Museum provides a range of historical tours, events, exhibits and commemorations which engage visitors with the fascinating and complex history of the country, the cemetery and the inspirational people who have been laid to rest in this hallowed place. Glasnevin’s mission today remains as it was handed from Daniel O’Connell “to bury people of all religions and none with dignity and respect” and to preserve and honour the heritage of past generations, serve and respect the needs of the present generation and provide a legacy for future generations.
