The Royal Gunpowder Mills operated across a vast 2.5km stretch on the south banks of the River Lee in Ballincollig from 1794 to 1903. At the height of its operation in the 19th century, it was the second biggest gunpowder works in Britain and Ireland. Today, the ruins of over 60 buildings associated with gunpowder manufacture are scattered throughout the Regional Park. A total of 20 points of interest are marked along the way and an information leaflet has been produced.
