At a recent medal Cork presentation, Timmy Wilk collected Munster and All-Ireland hurling medals. For the first time in 20 years, Cork captured both titles with Timmy being an integral part of the success. Playing a starring role at no 7 in defence, at 16 Timmy belied his tender years and was subsequently named among Irelands top 15 Minor Hurlers.
Earlier in his fledgling career, this young man had shown his prowess in athletics capturing club and Community Games All-Ireland medals for the sport. That was during his days in primary school at Bun Scoil Rinn an Chabhalaigh in Rushbrooke. With his high level of fitness, he was destined for stardom in any sport.
Indeed for those who know their sports and have a gra for rugby, after watching him play, marked him out as a future Irish rugby International. For now, hurling has brought this boy of Polish parents to the fore for Cork and it was even predicted four years ago that he would be the first Polish boy on the Cork hurling team. Only time will tell if he makes it to a higher level and all the signs are there that he will. We await with anticipation. He has all the ingredients of success with the support of his parents and brother, his club Cobh and School Midleton CBS.
