The death has occurred of Francis (Frank) O'Brien

Ex Irish Army, Military Police Haulbowline, U.N &amp; Congo Veteran.

Peacefully surrounded by his loving family &amp; in the loving care of all at The Mercy University Hospital, Cork. Beloved husband of Angela (nee O’Brien) much – loved father of Carolyn, David &amp; Aidán &amp; dear brother of Mary T. (Moore) Lena (Murphy) Michael &amp; Cyril O’ Brien &amp; the late Alice, Patrick, Bridie, Thomas &amp; Josephine. Sadly, missed &amp; lovingly remembered by his wife, daughter, sons, bothers, sisters, daughters in law Kim &amp; Fiona, grandchildren Jack, Conor, Kate &amp; Hayley, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, relatives &amp; a large circle of friends.

Frank’s funeral will take place in accordance with current HSE &amp; government guidelines.
Frank’s funeral cortege will leave Cahill’s Funeral Home on Wednesday September 1st at 10.30am en route to St. Colman’s Cathedral for 11am Requiem Mass followed by burial in St. Colman’s Cemetery.
Frank’s Requiem Mass will be livestreamed on www.cobhcathedralparish.ie.
Those who would have liked to attend Frank’s Requiem Mass but due to current Restrictions cannot do so, can leave a personal message in the condolence section below.

Frank O'Brien Rip 
So sorry to hear of Frank's untimely death a great friend, deeply religious, committed to every aspect of community life. I enjoyed my many chats with him,. the last a few weeks ago on an encounter during a walk to Whitepoint. He had a huge interest in so many activities and sports but had a special affection for the Special Olympics. He was indeed a man of many parts and his untimely passing will leave a huge void in the life of his family and indeed the entire community of the Great Island and far beyond it.
Rest In Peace Frank, your good deeds go with you.

I was so grateful to Frank for his kindness to me, every occasion he was involved in he invited me along to take photographs and report for Cobh News, when I was publishing the magazine. One of the many highlights was the the planting of a Cedar of Lebanon in the Bible garden at the Benedictine convent in September 2019, to remember the Irish soldiers who lost their lives in South Lebanon, while on pace keeping duty. The Previous November I had spent 5 memorable days visiting that beautiful country. The highlight was the monthly mass at the shrine of St Charbel, where there were 10,000 people gathered for mass at 10am on a mountain top which is higher than Carrintwohill.

Sad loss to family, friends and so many organisations Frank was involved in.
