<h3>An insight into the life of Calum Walsh</h3>

<p>Callum Walsh is from one of the first eras of fans that doesn’t feel the need to choose between MMA and boxing. As a student of both games, Walsh is on track to be one of combat sports’ all-time greats.</p>
<p>The 21-year-old Walsh enjoys a privilege not many have always had. In the past, a boxer cross training in an MMA gym may not have been received as well as it is today, and vice versa. Even at the height of the MMA vs Boxing days, though, Walsh feels like his work ethic would have made him one of the most respected members of whatever gym he went to.</p>
<p>“I’m always trying to work as hard as I can; even just for running, I’m always trying to be first,” Walsh said. “I look at it as a race. I’m always pushing myself.”</p>
<p>The decision to “compete” with everybody in the gym isn’t new, and it wasn’t a decision made to impress his coaches. Since Walsh was a child, he’s been an abnormally hard worker, catching the attention of those around him.</p>
<p>“I’ve been doing this my whole life,” Walsh explained. “I’ve always been training this hard since I was six years old, even when I’m not in camp. People in the gym always come up and say, ‘Do you have a fight coming up or something?’ and I have to tell them no, that this is all I know; it’s just how I train.”</p>
<p>It’s so second-nature to Walsh at this point that he doesn’t even pride himself on working harder than 99.9% of the globe. It’s just the way life has been since he was young enough to not know he was unique.</p>
<p>Expectations for himself have always been high and he’s already reaping the rewards of his hard work. There’s no time to stop and smell the roses, however. Walsh’s success is a product of his hard work and he’s only at the foot of the mountain.</p>

<p>During the days when I edited and published Cobh News Magazine every two weeks,  it was very important to give recognition to up and coming and aspiring young sports people. A few of the first award winners readily spring to mind like Kate Gardiner now a National tennis champion at adult level. Timmy Wilk who was a top athlete when  he a was a pupil at Bun Scoil Rinn an Chabhlaigh in Rushbrooke  I saw him playing hurling in the final of the Mrs Casey cup I predicted when he was just 12, that he would be the first Polish boy to make the Cork hurling team. That prediction came to pass when. last year he played a starring role as a 16 year old  on the Cork minor team,  that won the All-Ireland title. He was named in the top 15 in Ireland on the team of the year. He was honoured this year as joint Capt of the minor team, but Clare put an end to their chances. In March I suggested to Coral Manager Ber Rowe that we would revive the award under the banner of Xplore Local Cobh App and she readily agreed. As a fan of Callum Walsh who had just won a major boxing fight in the USA,  she suggested he would be a good choice. During his recent visit home to Cobh, the went along to Coral and Ber presented him with his award  of a years membership of Coral, which. he  sportingly decided to give it to an up and coming young sports person. Already we have candidates in mind for the April and May awards the April one will be announced shortly followed by the one for May. <p>In recent winters, ME has been offered a course with an emphasis on outdoor life and self-empowerment, but the course is part of the Eramus + project F: ire &amp; ice, which is a collaborative project of ME, UÍA and the Irish youth organization YMCA.</p>
<p>Last weekend, the Icelandic group set foot on land and visited their peers in Cobh Ireland, and it can be said that it was a moment of resilience when the Icelandic group finally stepped on Irish soil, as the project was originally intended to take place in 2020.</p>
<p>The Icelandic group will stay in Cobh for about a week and get to know Irish culture and nature.</p>
<p>The Irish group will then repay the visit in August, when the young people will spend a week together in the East Fjords wilderness and e.g. walk together Víknaslóðir.</p>
<p>We encourage everyone to follow the group's adventures next week on the school's social media.</p>

<p>We thoroughly enjoyed welcoming Vicky and Latisha from @jep_ireland virtually into 6th Class to celebrate our Junior Entrepreneur Programme efforts!</p>
<p>Each of our groups performed an interactive presentation full of their best work for their peers and a selection of special guests including Ms. Flannery, Mr. Carney and Ms. O'Connor.</p>
<p>The children dressed for the occasion in their best business attire and we are so proud of our future business people!!</p>
<p>A great day was had by all and we are so excited for The JEP Celebration Event of June 14th!</p>

<p>We were delighted to have Kathy Bradley (UCC) and Gráinne Fouhy (Sam's Business Bus Entrepreneurial Programme) into our school to present Mr. Stephenson's Class with certificates of completion!</p>
<p>We presented our findings to them and delivered a selection of bags that they ordered from us!</p>

<p>Congratulations to our Junior Girls Soccer Team who won the Cork Soccer League today. They defeated Midleton College in the Plate decider that went to the wire ending in a penalty shoot out.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>PDFORRA has once again made history for it's members , this battle has been ongoing for nearly thirty years , many members have left , committees changed and comrades passed on .</h3>
