<h2>Wishing all a blessed and peaceful 2022. </h2>
I spent New Years day reflecting on the past year and looking forward to a productive New Year. Coming to the end of a very relaxing first day of January 2022. I watched Mama Mia. The dawn of the New Year broke with a` lovely sunrise after a very stormy night. I celebrated 10am mass in the cathedral and it was available on line on the Cobh parish page. I met my first cousin Joan O'Connell after mass and she invited me for breakfast and I returned to the cathedral to help out with communion at a funeral mass. I thought about going to Donoughmore for dinner but having spent 5 days there Fot Christmas, but decided to take it easy after a busy Friday which included a wedding in Cobh.
I Enjoyed a fab programme of horse racing on TV. I thought it would be better to book dinner at the Waters Edge, when i went there I was surprised there were very few dining. I got a fine dinner as usual and with the nice evening, I decided to take a walk down to Whitepoint I was surprised to see 23 camper vans parked. I had not taken too many pictures for a few days and when I got home I was surprised to have over 40 capturing the Christmas atmosphere on New Year's Day. I've another busy schedule coming up. Mass at Ballymore church at 9.30 on Sunday morning. I am Invited to dinner with my brother John and his wife Rita's at their home in Midleton. After dinner I'm going back to Donoughmore for the night. On Monday I'm off to Dublin to officiate at the funeral mass of my good friend Christy Wall, life Vice President of Athletics. Former international secretary, a former senator and election manager for Bertie Ahern former Taoiseach.&nbsp;
It's not worth my while coming back to Cork after the funeral. On Thursday I'm booked on a flight from Dublin to Newark and on to New Orleans for the Carlow College re-Union which I missed for the first time in 16 years in 2021. Then I have many other friends to meet in Phoenix and Vegas, going from there to Maui back to San Francisco and home. I hope it works out.
<h2>Updating of news on the Xplore Cobh App</h2>
I will be able to update news from Cobh on the app. I believe the app is the best way forward in Communication. The major platform for communication has been Facebook, but that seems to be on the wane. I have 5,000 friends on that platform and I know them all, but I'm currently scrolling through them to find out who is still active and I reckon that a quarter at least is not active. The app can contain all up to date news of clubs, schools and organisations, if they are prepared to make the effort to submit it and it has worked to the extent that groups have played their part.
Also at your fingertips as well as news and sports updates, are sections on food and drink, shopping, lifestyle, services, clubs, lodging, attractions, hikes and trails, self-guided tours and useful information. All these include, email address, phone no, website if supplied, as well as directions and a facility to share with other media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, Viber, email etc. The facility I have as well as posting news, is to be able to post pictures. Well over 100 groups are listed on the app all organised by Boon Agency which are the owners of the app and uploaded all the info, now I have the facility to add whatever I think is relevant. It came at a personal cost I had utter confidence after seeing other towns benefiting and I outlaid €5,000 of my own money and that was matched by Cobh Credit Union, through the good offices of Michael Carlin.
<h2>Small nominal charge for 2022</h2>
All info has been loaded up at no cost to those listed on the app, and to ensure its viability for 2022, there is a small nominal charge of €50 for the year or just €1 a week. Those who wish to advertise can do so for a small cost of €20 a month, value like this has never been offered before by any media, one full page of advertising can cost in excess of €300. There is a rapidly increasing number of people downloading the app absolutely free on Apple or Google. Use QR code or just the Xplore Local and you have a choice of many towns including Cobh. Many thanks to all who have supported and promoted the App, since it was re-launched in July of last year. Again Happy New Year and let's increase the profile of Cobh and the Great Island, which will benefit everybody.
