<h3>DARKNESS INTO LIGHT</h3>

With so many of our volunteers joining the community for Darkness into Light and also litter picking along the route, today's mid morning crew was rather small. The Khyber Pass looks better now without the huge blob of dumped fence paint, broken glass and weeds. The town centre also has fewer cigarette butts and detritus along the kerbs and under seats after this mornings work. But we need a town strategy to deal with these as it's quite disgusting right now.&nbsp;

Fantastic turnout before Darkness into Light on Saturday morning at 4am. Well done to all who supported and thanks to all the volunteers. Thanks to Nicky who kept the flame burning outside St Colman's Cathedral.

<h3>CLBB Senior Championship Final Cobh 45. Ballincollig 57</h3>

It wasn’t to be for this young Cobh team who succumbed to an experienced and talented Ballincollig team in the final of the Cork Ladies Basketball Board Senior grade. Lead by deserved MVP, Samantha Coomey, Ballincollig pulled away in the last few minutes to bring the title back to the village.&nbsp;
While the first half quarter was close in scoring terms, it did show the contrast in style between the two teams. Ballincollig attacked the basket to great effect using the dynamic play of Samantha Coomey and the inside power of Danielle Geary, while Cobh relied on the fast break and shooting from beyond the three point arc. Amy Duggan had two threes for Cobh in this quarter and Jane Palmer was on hand to finish off a fast break. The return from free throws over the course of the game further emphasises the contrast in styles with Ballincollig scoring 11 points to Cobh’s none. Ballincollig lead 9-8 at the end of the first quarter.&nbsp;
Ballincollig edged the second quarter 12–8. Amy and Zara Smith had baskets for Cobh and two baskets from Mia Tarrant kept Cobh in touch. Alison Lyons and Samantha Coomey were good for Ballincollig in this period. Despite the best efforts of Anna Ring, Amy Morrissey and Eimear Diggin, Ballincollig lead 21-16 at half time.&nbsp;
The third quarter had some of the best basketball of the game. Another three pointer from Amy opened Cobh’s scoring but this was soon cancelled by a monstrous three from Samantha Coomey which banked in off the glass. Jane, Orlaith Finn, Mia and Amy added baskets for Cobh while Caoimhe Donovan and Yvonne Burgoyne added baskets for Ballincollig who lead 39-33 at the end of the third quarter.&nbsp;
Cobh started the last quarter well and with six and a half minutes left had narrowed the gap to one point at 40-41. A three pointer from Amy and two outside shots from Dara Diggin took Cobh to 40 points but that was as close as they got. A scoring spurt from Ballincollig extended their lead and despite a three pointer from Dara and a basket from Zara, Ballincollig held a 12 point lead at the final buzzer.&nbsp;
Samantha Coomey with 27 points was a deserved MVP.&nbsp;
It is a great achievement to reach a Senior championship final in their first year at the grade and while on this occasion we finished runners up, the girls should be very proud of their season.&nbsp;
