<h2><span style="color: rgb(209,72,65);"><strong>John Cleary selected as Cork Senior men's football coach. </strong></span></h2>
<h2><strong>On Thursday morning when I heard the news, that John Cleary had been named as the Cork Mens Senior coach I was absolutely thrilled. Having worked with John and the Cork Minor girls  for 4 years, I was very quickly made aware of the high  level of his ability,  his professional approach and thorough attention  to detail, his rapport with the girls and with his management team. I really looked forward  to the twice weekly sessions. Due to may clergy commitments,  there were times that I was unable to make the training, but John and his team were  ever present.</strong></h2>
<h2><strong> Of course he had a tremendous pedigree in the sport, having  won a Senior All-Ireland on the field of play with Cork, then he went on  to lead Cork Under 21's to 2 All-Ireland titles.  When the Senior team position came up 8 or 9 years ago, John had to be the leading candidate. I remember having a discussion with him,  when he was faced with a dilemma, his own 2 daughter  Laura and Emma were leading lights in Cork's underage success, what would he do?. Thankfully for the benefit of Cork  Ladies Football, John chose the right road, family came first. That  decision led him to huge success,  4 All-Ireland  minor titles in 5 years and a one point loss to Galway in the other final, with a team I had considered outstanding, after a clear cut victory over Dublin the Semi-Final.</strong></h2>
<h2><strong>The pandemic has spoiled the party since and  I would have considered John a shoe in for the Senior Job, if and when it became available. With 2 excellent candidates interviewed, John missed out on what must have been a very close call. His disappointment thankfully, did not last very long and when the Senior Manager Keith Ricken came calling,  John answered the call,   so it was brilliant news to hear, best of luck to John,  Keith and all the management team and hopefully they will bring  back the glory days for Cork, absent for far too long.   Good luck to Shane Roynane as well, with his stewardship of the Ladies team, they too have been, absent for far too long from the top table.</strong></h2>
