6th Year Biology Trip to Fota Wildlife Park:&nbsp;
Our 6th year Biology students had a great day for their Ecology field trip to Fota.&nbsp;
Students carried out Leaving Cert Ecology experiments in both Woodland and Grassland habitats.&nbsp;
The students used a variety of apparatus to identify and record animal and plant species in Fota.&nbsp;
Thank you to staff in the education centre for a very informative day out.&nbsp;

A quiet weekend for the adult teams before the league action commences for both J1 and J2. Our 20s will also be in action very soon with their fixture list imminent.&nbsp;
In the juvenile section we continue to welcome and encourage new members in all age grades, girls and boys.&nbsp;
Our 18.5s boys are the only home fixture playing Dungarvan in a friendly in The Paddocks on Saturday at 1pm. Our 16s head to Woodleigh Park on Friday evening to play Highfield while our 13s travel to neighbours Midelton on Saturday at noon.

Our pupils massively impressed over the past two days with their Student Council Hustings/Speeches!&nbsp;
Each candidate between 3rd - 6th class performed their '60 Second Speeches' in a bid to represent their classes on our Student Council! 🌟
The children really showed off their talents by making a selection of posters, catchy mottos and some amazing crafts to accompany their speeches! ☺️
The voting process for our Student Council 2022/2023 takes place Friday (22nd of September) with the big result being announced on FRIDAY (23rd of September)&nbsp;
What ever the results, we cannot commend our pupil's creativity, ingenuity and confidence as the show off their #StudentVoice&nbsp;

Marie Brett’s exhibition The Hidden Mountain, the Fort and the Five Trees features works, including a commissioned, newly made installation, that consider social, psychological, allegorical, and mystical methods of processing trauma, conflict, and control.
We invited the writer Emma Dwyer to respond to the exhibition, focusing on one of the accompanying events. We are reproducing excerpts of this commissioned essay.
Don’t Drink the Water

As part of the exhibition’s extensive public programme, there was a field trip to a Holy Well in East Cork which contextualised the installation. A holy well is a body of water where something supernatural has occurred giving rise to its devotion. They are deemed holy because, as blogger Amanda Clarke put it, “someone has said it is.”
On arguably the wettest day of April, Amanda introduced a group to Lady’s Well in East Cork. “Water attracts people,” she explained, “Holy wells cannot be used for domestic purposes; you can’t clean petticoats and potatoes with it. Holy well water does not boil!” At this point, Joan, the farmer whose land the Lady’s Well is on, interjected to say: “that’s wrong; it does boil.”
Amanda went on to tell us about the restorative and healing powers of holy well water. It is believed that, if you drink it or put it on your body, you will be cured. Holy wells predate Christianity in Ireland. But, like so many ancient traditions, they have been formalised within the Catholic narratives, and most of them are associated with patron saints. When they were most popular as places of pilgrimage, there was one for everything, to heal whatever ailment you might have.
