<p>On a fine Sunny afternoon at a well appointed Erin's Own  GAA grounds at Caherlag, Cobh junior footballers put the disappointment of many years and particularly the pas t4 years behind them as they scored a comprehensive victory over Castlemartyr  in the East Cork final.</p>

<p>We had all the summer vibes Saturday  morning with our 23 volunteers out taking part in street &amp; beach cleans in support of Clean Coasts Big Beach Clean. Litter that ends up in our waterways and our beaches all starts on our streets so keeping them litter free helps keep our waters clean.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Whitepoint beach was picked as well as the town centre and surrounding streets &amp; steps. Bags of cordyline leaves were gathered along the waters edge and we painted more of the waterside railings in the Promenade.&nbsp;</p>
<p>A big treat to be invited to lunch in the The Quays Bar and Restaurant by Noel &amp; Margaret. Delicious food in a stunning location. We felt like we were abroad! We wish them well in their next adventure as The Quays now on the market.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&nbsp;The sun shone and we took to the steps, streets and shores of Cobh on World Clean Up day along with 45million other volunteers in 180 countries around the world !&nbsp;</p>
<p>20 bags of litter picked including 2 bags of single use plastic bags gathered along the shoreline at Connolly Street strand. We swept, cut back and cleaned the Burma steps from top to bottom. Kudos to Cork County Council the repairs on the steps there. Good to see residents out today cutting back their foliage obstructing footpaths. Thank you to Garvey's Supervalu Cobh for their continued support of our work and the much appreciated cuppa &amp; creamy buns after today’s work</p>

<p>It's been a very busy weekend all around the Great Island as volunteers took part in the Clean Coasts  BigBeachClean 2022!&nbsp;</p>
<p>Saturday saw Cobh Tidy Towns volunteers cleaning around Whitepoint.</p>
<p>Alan O'Shea and his sons Alexander (8) and Nicholas (6.5) covered 1.2km of coastline around Marlogue and then we had another group of volunteers on Sunday at Carrigaloe.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>On the 100th anniversary of both Ramblers and the Munster Football Association, it was arguably fitting that the silverware should head to Cobh thanks to James O’Leary’s long free kick in the second half.</h3>

<p>The U17 girls followed up their impressive opening day 3-2 away win at Avondale with a comfortable 4-1 win at home v Douglas Hall yesterday. Douglas Hall were dangerous on the attack and got a deserved goal in the closing minutes</p>
<p>The home side created lots of chances and finishing 4 of them. Goals from Jane Hovells, Emily Ring, Sophie O'Donovan &amp; Teresa Puente Curiel</p>

<p>We were 1-0 nil up at half time after a strong first half performance. Cillian O’ Connell with the goal from a well converted penalty.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Leeside came back into the game in the second half and got their equaliser mid-way through.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The game could have gone either way before Kyle O’ Callaghan got the winner with an excellent finish.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Best on the day were Will O’ Keeffe, Roan Fallon and Kyle O’ Callaghan.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&nbsp;Cobh GC are supporting Cobh’s Tidy Town Committee in participating in a once-off clean-up operation on Saturday 24th September.&nbsp;</p>
<p>If you would like to join in - you are more than welcome. Meeting at Carrig House at 10:00am that morning. Back to the clubhouse for a chat and light refreshments at 11:45am. President Seamie and Captains Tony and Marian will be attending the clean-up.</p>

<h2>Visiting the  Aras</h2>

<p>&nbsp;Last Thursday saw another fantastic highlight of our 10th Anniversary celebrations when we had a special invite from Áras an Uachtaráin</p>
<p>for a private two hour tour of the magnificent gardens of  the Áras from Head Gardener Robbie Norris. Robbie normally would only give a handful of tours a year mostly to visiting dignitaries so to have the benefit of his 18 years of knowledge and enthusiasm as the head of the team at the Áras  we were indeed honoured and dressed in our costumes from 1840 up to and including our 1916 Mna na hEireann and 1920 we were definitely one of his most unique tours!</p>
<p>On the way to the formal gardens which were created in 1840 we saw some of the many ceremonial trees (mostly oaks) planted by the likes of Presidents John F Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Eamon de Valera and on the Queen's Walk some of the oldest trees with one of the oldest planted by Queen Victoria in 1853. We also viewed The Peoples Acorn commissioned by President Higgins as part of the 1916-2016 centenary commemorations and the Peace Bell commissioned by President Mary McAleese commemorating the Good Friday Agreement .&nbsp;</p>
<p>We then entered the magnificent walled garden which has organic status and provides flowers (including the most beautiful dahlias), fruit and vegetables for the Áras&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>Though President Higgins was at a meeting during our visit he took time to come to the window to wave to us which we very much appreciated and Misneach one of his gorgeous Bernese Mountain dogs came for a romp around the garden while we were there!</p>

<p>After setting sail from  COBH Ireland, our three STS cranes have arrived safely at MaherTerminals LLC at the Port of New York and New Jersey.</p>
<p>In order to reach Maher, the cranes had to pass under the Verrazzano-Narrows Suspension Bridge and the Bayonne Bridge. With the booms lowered and the vessel’s ballast tanks full, the cranes passed under Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge before gently gliding under the Bayonne Bridge. With less than 60 cm to spare, it was a tight squeeze, but well within expectations.</p>

<p>Karen is a skilled professional performer with a passion for entertaining. Karen brings energetic fire performing combined with provocative movement and dance. Karen is an aerialist who started her circus training many years ago at Freefall Circus in Liverpool, then Urban Angels in Leeds, and currently trains with the Circus Factory in Cork. She has done many exciting solo and group performances including; fire, trapeze, aerial hoop acts. Karen specialises in cabaret acts and is sure to add a spark to this amazing event!</p>

<p>Deborah has a passion for dance and a fierceness for fire. A solo and group performer, Deborah has performed at many festivals and events around Ireland such as the West Cork Flow Festival and All Together Now.  With a strong interest in body movement and flow arts, Deborah combines her love for entertaining with her unique flair and flow.  Weaving her magic and moves together, she is sure to dazzle and light up this event.</p>
