<p>St John Paul II is most remembered for his charismatic nature, his love of youth and his world travels, along with his role in the fall of communism in Europe during his 27-year papacy.<br><br>His love for young people brought him to establish the World Youth Days. The 19 WYDs celebrated during his pontificate brought together millions of young people from all over the world. At the same time his care for the family was expressed in the World Meetings of Families, which he initiated in 1994.<br><br>St John Paul II, pray for us 🙏🏻</p>

<h3>East Ferry</h3>

<p>The Old Red Sandstone rocks on East Ferry beach are @ 450 million years old and were formed during the Devonian Period.These ancient rocks are found all around the shores of the Great Island and more so on the eastern coast from the north eastern tip by Bagwells Wood beach to the south eastern point by Marlogue Woods beach. Photos and samples have been taken by the geology department of UCC recently and they hope to hold the long awaited marine geology guided walk(which was originally cancellled due to Covid 19) along the shoreline from Cuskinny to East Ferry in the Spring time.<br></p>

<p>With pride we launched our 13th edition of the beautiful “Discovering Cobh &amp; Great Island” calendar in Cobh Golf Club. Thanks to everyone who submitted photos for consideration and congratulations to all the photographer whose photos are included. <br>The 2023 calendar is our biggest fundraiser to raise funds to support our work in Cobh. Get your calendar for home or to send to loved ones abroad who love Cobh. There are stunning photos in it. It will be available from our volunteers, in shops around town and online - link in comments below. This morning some of the photographers joined us and were delighted to receive a framed copy of their photo and a copy of the calendar. Thanks to Marcin, Justin &amp; Lillian for the beautiful scones &amp; beverages at the golf club in such a beautiful setting.&nbsp;</p>

<p>28 volunteers out today including Wilbur with Mum Lou and Dad Mark helping out on their holidays from London! <br>⚓️Some massive work done by volunteers clearing old rusted metal bars and anchors from Connolly Street strand. <br>🥤Litter was picked from all around town. Thanks to the gentleman who treated the 4 Barry children to hot chocolate from Happy Days at the Five Foot for all their work down there. 👏🏻<br>🌱During the week volunteers gave the meadow at Ballynoe bridge its annual cut. The cuttings were left to allow seeds to fall. Today we gathered up all the cuttings to promote growth of wild flowers and grasses over the coming months. After all this we headed to the launch of our brand new 2023 calendar. That deserves a post of its own! <br>Thanks to everyone for their work today and everyone who helped throughout the year. <p>Hi Everyone, with recent high winds your Little Library lost a door! But the wonderful folks at Port of Cork rescued all the books and saved the door. We popped it back on this morning (with extra strong fixings!) and we added a little latch for some greater safety.<br><br>Your Little Library is getting a lot of use, and people are treating it with such huge respect. We cannot thank you all enough. Just look at how many books are available for everyone to share.<br><br>So make sure pop down, bring/take a book, and CLOSE the latch!</p>
