<p>According to tradition, Luke was a very talented young man. He not only wrote a Gospel account and the Acts of the Apostles, but he was also a Greek physician and an artist. Luke is the patron saint of artists, as well as of doctors. <br><br>Luke wrote one of the major portions of the New Testament, a two-volume work comprising the third Gospel and Acts of the Apostles. In the two books, he shows the parallelism between the life of Christ and that of the Church. He is the only Gentile Christian among the Gospel writers. Tradition holds him to be a native of Antioch, and Paul calls him “our beloved physician.” <br><br>Various traditions claim that he drew one or more portraits of the Virgin Mary from life. Aside from that, Luke is always associated with Mary because it is only in his Gospel that important events in her life, such as the Annunciation. <br><br>St Luke, pray for us 🙏🏻</p>

<p>Adam Cronin head of offshore at DP Energy together with our President was thrilled to present Garry &amp; Anne Wilson of Belvelly Castle with The Cobh &amp; Harbour Chamber 2022 Award at the Gala Dinner.  The award reflected their commitment to Cobh, in particular the outstanding successes of the 'GAIA Exhibition' at St Coleman's Cathedral, and showing great support for Cobh.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The great work on the ground continues. Big thanks to Cork County Council litter warden Clodagh who was out last week and again this week with 6th class students from Bunscoil Rinn An Chabhlaigh loving their town and picking up after careless people dropping litter on the ground.</p>

<p>Safehaven Marine are delighted to have signed contracts with P&amp;O Maritime for an Interceptor 48 pilot boat. This will be the 5th pilot boat we have built for P&amp;O Maritime / DP World. It’s always great to have a repeat order, especially a 5th as it’s a fine testimony to our pilot boats capabilities. The pilot boat is for their operations in Maputo, Mozambique and will be powered by MAN’s excellent 13litre 500hp engines. She will also be built to a very high specification especially for hot weather operations, and be delivered in early 2024.</p>

<p>After the greatly anticipated return of the cruise  liners  earlier this year, the season now draws to an end  today the final cruise vessel, the MS Borealis arrived in Cobh at 9.30am this Tuesday  morning. Pictured from Cathedral Terrace</p>
<h4>Giving publicity to  what Cobh and the Great island have too offer.</h4>
<h4>&nbsp;A message from Fr Liam App Co-ordinator</h4>
<p>One of the main reasons that I was instrumental in setting up a dedicated App for the town and the Great Island,  was to have as much information as possible available for all the residents,  but equally important to showcase what the island has to offer. After watching a presentation in Youghal  my reaction was that this would be a great asset for Cobh. I was not put off by the total cost €10,000 after seeing what would be available. I pledged €5,000 from own resources and and the greatest benefactors on the island Cobh Credit Union provided a similar amount. For reasons that would serve no useful purpose to look back on now,  it really never took off. Then through the good offices of the owners of the Xplore Local franchise, there were a number of vital changes. The most important,  was the facility to put up local news every day. For over a year that has been a labour of love for me. It takes 2-3 hours everyday to source the news and only for the co-operation and goodwill  of the various social media outlets it would not be possible. Everywhere i went i took my laptop and ensured the news was posted. daily.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During a  visit to the Benedictine Tea room today i had a very interesting conversation with a member of the staff of the Cruise ship, Howard, a musician. He spent the day walking around and found the Benedictine convent, Bible garden and he tea room,  where i met him. A native of Lancaster in England he was fascinated by what he stumbled across, without having seen a sign or a notice of it.s existence.  I showed him the App and he was amazed at what it had to offer and simply he said every passenger arriving in Cobh should be made  aware of it. To my knowledge i have never seen it advertised or promoted by any of the organisations on the island that have a vested interest in promoting tourism in the town and Great island. I think the time is right that a meeting should be arranged with all those concerned  groups  sooner rather than later. With more people involved in helping with and promoting the App without  fear or favour, the results i think would be phenomenal.
