<h3>The tradition of the Station Mass by Fr Liam Kelleher&nbsp;</h3>

<p>For those who do not know or maybe have forgotten,  the tradition of the Spring and Autumn Station masses, has been with us since shortly after the penal times.  The practice consisted of the celebration of holy mass, when    those present from a particular area brought  their offerings for the support of their  clergy. These contributions were supplemented by the Christmas and Easter offerings,  the main source of income for the clergy during the year. At a time when mass attendance has been declining, it is timely to remind people of their christian responsibilities. The tragedy that happened at Creeslough brought sadness to the whole country and I have seen various comments from some sometimes hostile people towards the church. A particular one that made sense  with the following headline.' we sneer at the concept of christianity these days, but the tragedy at Creeslough illustrates how the church still plays a crucial role in providing comfort. There has been huge acclaim  for the Parish priest Fr John Joe Duffy who stood by his flock dsy and night since the tragedy unfolded.</p>
<h4>It is nice to see on social media a note of thanks from the Community at Ballymore. I had many happy nights before my retirement at the Station masses in their  homes and in the Community Centre</h4>
<h4>With sincere gratitude to Fr Tom for a most beautiful Autumn Station's mass on this October evening in Ballymore,to the very talented Eileen Plummer and Dominic Finn for their wonderful music and hymns, to Eileen for having the church so warm and cosy and to Grainne, Breda and Fiona who had a hot cuppa and treats ready in the community centre after the mass.We all agreed how it is so lovely to keep this old tradition of "The Autumn Station's"alive and, once again, it was a most very enjoyable community evening.</h4>
<h3>Harbour Chamber dinner</h3>

<p>Cobh and harbour Chamber celebrated their 65 years of success with the Taoiseach, Minister Michael Mc Grath, Minister Simon Coveney and their Sponsor for the evening DP Energy. The President of Cobh and Harbour Chamber Johanna Murphy 3 key messages on the night were Energy Security, New Road for Cobh and Housing. Cork Harbour is the epicentre of Energy and could be the battery of Europe.</p>

<p>A fantastic night at Cobh Chamber Presidents Gala Dinner last night! The Commodore Hotel pulled out all the stops and the room and food was first class. The event was at full capacity and included guests such as  Taoiseach Micheal Martin, Ministers Simon Coveney and Michael McGrath, TD's David Stanton, James O'Connor, Bishop William Crean and Sonia O'Sullivan.<br><br>Also in attendance were Garry and Ann Wilson who were deservedly awarded the Chamber Community Award for all they have done for Cobh and the Great Island since they arrived at Belvelly Castle! <br><br>With many of the team attending the dinner Mary and Liz flew the flag for the team and did a marvellous job in meeting and greeting the guests as they arrived.<br><br>Well done to President Johanna Murphy, Cobh &amp; Harbour Chamber as well as the staff at Cobh Chamber for a wonderful night.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Yesterday we had a visit from members of the Kildare branch of BirdWatch Ireland. We managed to dodge the rain and were rewarded with great views of many birds including Kingfisher and Whimbrel. We also had the first sighting of the Migrant Hawker dragonfly. The first Irish record was from Wexford around 2000. Their distribution grew to coastal areas around the south east but now there are some records of inland Migrant Hawkers, and their distribution continues to spread towards the north east coast.</p>

<p><br>Fabulous win for our U14 Division 1 squad today away against table toppers Youghal. <br><br>We took the lead after 10 mins when Kyle O’ Callaghan beat the Youghal keeper to the ball, keeping his composure to cooly slot home. <br><br>In terrible conditions, the Cobh boys battled admirably to keep a fine Youghal side scoreless for the rest of the game. We were unlucky not to add a second goal with plenty of good attacking play.<br><br>A brilliant squad performance from all 15 players to make it five wins in a row. <br><br>Well done lads.</p>
<h3>Cobh Ramblers FC 2-3 Bray Wanderers <br><br> A match played in a great sporting manner it was Bray Wanderers with an 89th minute winner to take the points on a 2-3 scoreline.&nbsp;</h3>

<p>A tough outing for our Girls Under 14s yesterday, with Carrigaline,  at home to a strong &amp; organised Midleton/Youghal side. The game  was downgraded to a friendly due to numbers and the team/coaches will definitely take a lot from this first outing for the remainder of the season. Well done girls. CARRIGALINE R.F.C.</p>
<h3>Whitepoint Swimming fundraiser</h3>

<p>What a fantastic morning of community fun at Whitepoint this morning. The Whitepoint Swimmers organised a sponsored swim to raise funds to repair the American Pier. Swimmers of all ages and abilities, some seasoned, some not, took part under the watchful eye of safety boats and kayaks. The weather aided a brilliant atmosphere in the water and on shore. Thank you to Irish Red Cross Cobh Branch for providing cover as they do to so many community and sporting events in Cobh and East Cork.</p>
