<p>All of us at SIRIUS - board, staff and collaborators - are saddened by the news of the death of Brian O’Doherty, one of Ireland's most influential artists. His contribution to the art world inspired and challenged, and will undoubtedly continue to provoke, ideas regarding the connection between concepts, autonomy, politics, and society.<br><br>We are honoured to have collaborated with Brian, then known as Patrick Ireland, in the production of one of his outstanding works, the mural One here now - the Ogham Cycle', created in 1995-96 while he was in residence. Covered until 2018, a restoration and presentation of the mural, together with an extensive programme, celebrated Brian's practice and life and allowed us to engage with him again.<br><br>The scholar Alexander Alberro states the mural conveys a complex historical narrative that is “one of sorrow and oppression, and once its layers of complex codes are understood, the series of paintings take on the status of a memorial to those who were forced to leave Ireland, as well as an act of resistance against the legacy of what has been described as the ‘age of empire’.”</p>
<p>The mural, a foundational project for us, continues to be part of the debate on Irish art, and we are happy to develop further discourse around it in our programme. In this way, Brian's memory and interests in language, identity and perception can continue to be a driving force for all of us.<br><br>We offer our condolences to Brian's wife, Barbara Novak, and all his family.<br>Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam - may he rest in peace.<br>Clare Keogh<br></p>

<p>For the week that is in it. This is the last Cobh team to win a Cork County Football Final. On October 13th. 1968 Cobh Intermediate  Footballers beat St. Vincent's by a score of 1-12 to 1-6 at the Cork Athletic  Grounds. Best of luck from this group to the Junior A Footballers on Sunday when they take on Kilmurray.</p>
