<p>Just shy of 1,000 juvenile athletes participated in Sunday's  Munster Cross Country Championships held in Limerick Racecourse, where the going was most definitely heavy from the off. <br><br>Despite the holding conditions underfoot, the black and amber brigade done themselves proud. <br><br>Charlie Barrett &amp; Alfie Cummins were first to come under the starters orders in the u9 event which saw both boys putting in a solid effort over 750 metres, with Alfie taking home an individual medal for his fifth placed finish and a silver team medal after helping Cork to a podium finish in the County standings. <br><br>Aisling O’Leary &amp; Ava Chandler were next to line up in the u15 contest over 3,500m. Once again, both of the girls ran with great credit. Calling on all of her previous experience at this level, Ava claimed a Top 12 finish and in so doing now qualifies for the upcoming National Championships. <br><br>Continuing her impressive recent form, Caoimhe Carolan was prominent from the start of the u17 race over 4,000m and also landed one of the coveted Top 12 finishing spots to stamp her ticket for next month's All-Ireland show piece in Conna. <br><br>As well as individual medals for Ava &amp; Caoimhe, both girls contributed as scoring members of the victorious Cork teams in their respective age categories. <br><br>While silverware at this level should be rightly celebrated, the willingness to step forward and take on the challenge of cross-country running on any day is praiseworthy in itself. We salute those who represented the club on Sunday and congratulate each of them for their valiant efforts.</p>

<p>Cobh Library is delighted to announce an upcoming storytelling event with renowned author and Chocktaw storyteller Tim Tingle.  <br><br>Tim has spent decades gathering the stories of the Choctaw Nation. His own great grandfather walked the Trail of Tears and in 1993 Tim retraced this journey gathering and preserving the stories of the Nation along the way. Ireland is, in a small way, woven into this history.   <br><br>In 1847 members of the Choctaw Nation, on hearing of the plight of the Irish during An Gorta Mór (The Great Irish Famine), gathered a considerable sum of money at the time to aid the suffering of the Irish. This relief landed at the quayside in Cobh by ship before being distributed and in recognition of this incredible gesture Cork County Libraries look forward to welcoming Tim to Cobh Library on Tuesday 22nd November at 11.30 a.m.  <br><br>Come along and enjoy lots of story swapping with Tim and organiser Maria Gillen, Storyteller in Residence, Kerry Writers Museum.<br><br>For further information please contact Cobh.library@corkcoco.ie or call 021 4811130</p>

<p>Fantastic news with four of our club players making the 32 player U16 Girls international squad for this season. Well done to Clodagh, Francesca, Katie and Lucy on this great achievement. Continue to work hard and be an inspiration to  your club mates. Great credit to all the girls school, club and academy coaches who have played their parts in the girls development. Also a big thank you to their parents for all their efforts in getting them to training and matches.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ireland U16 women’s head coach Laura Mullally is hailing the strong intangibles of the players who attended talent identification sessions, as she names a 32-person squad ahead of the 2022/23 season.<br><br>Just one player, Leixlip Amenities Liffey Celtics’ Ciara Brogan returns from the Ireland U16 team who competed at this summer’s FIBA U16 Women’s European Championship in Montenegro, where Ireland finished in 15thplace.<br><br>The squad features five players who will also be eligible at this level in the 2023/24 season, giving Brunell’s Abbie Lyons, Kilkenny Star’s Kaitlyn Summers, Francesca Kyamagero and Lucy Walsh of Cobh BC and Lena Zydek from Athlone BC a chance to gather experience and progress to lead the following cycle.<br><br>Head coach Laura Mullally says the size of the squad, which is larger than originally anticipated, is an example of the fantastic talent which was on show during the talent identification phase:<br><br>"The talent, enthusiasm and effort that was on display went above and beyond our expectations - women's basketball in Ireland is truly on the rise. We chose a group of women who are obviously skilled but that we also feel bring important intangibles - versatility, athleticism, competitiveness and excellent basketball IQ. We selected more players than originally planned, this is a testament to all the young ladies who attended our trials, it was a highly competitive environment. We are very excited for the potential growth of this group both as basketball players and women," Mullally added.  <br></p>

<p>As everyone knows, there is a huge sporting occasion this Thursday evening in Pairc ui Chaoimh. In front of a sell out crowd, of more than 40,000 supporters, history will be made in the Ballintemple venue as it hosts its first ever rugby game. <br>In the warm up game, a South Africa Select XV will go toe to toe with the might of Munster, while the main event sees PIRATES RFC girls u12s take on Old Crescent Rugby Football Club at half time at the Blackrock end. <br>Best of luck girls, but more importantly, enjoy the occasion</p>

These  lucky winners of the Cobh Credit Union Student Draw each took home €1500 to help towards the cost of their 1st year of college. The App can be downloaded on Apple or Google. Just type in Xplore Local and you have a choice of selecting 20 towns and choose Cobh. It has over 100 listings and there is no need to be on other social media platforms and its totally free. Thanks to   Cobh Credit Union who contributed €5,000 of the €10,000 to set up all the listings and I contributed the other €5,000. I put at least 2 hours everyday into compiling and updating the news usually more than 10  stories and the record for a day is 28.
