<p>Thank you to everyone who made our school celebration so special this afternoon. <br><br>It was lovely to see so many of you in St. Colman’s Cathedral for our Feast Day Mass. <br><br>A special thank you to Fr. Tom whose words we will take with us as we continue our school year.</p>

As a PBST school, we think of the Presentation Brothers and all in our Presentation Community who have contributed so much to our school over the years.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>Magnificent  week-end in Donegal</h3>

<p>Ava's All-Ireland medal, Anika's gold and East Cork's Senior silver team medals the highlight of a magnificent weekend in Donegal. We left Cobh at 8.45 Saturday morning. <br>After a journey of 601kms we  arrived safely at our base at Dunfanaghy at around 5pm. Thanks to Carol our brilliant pilot. After one stop near Drogheda we stopped off at the course at Rossapena. We were greeted by Athletics Ireland President John Cronin who was born a few miles from the course. The rain poured down but we took the time to walk the course. It is relatively flat and bone dry underneath,  despite the rain.   When we arrived at the hotel just a few miles from Creeslough, the first person we met was Anika Thompson who traveled all the way from Eugene in Oregon in the West coast of the USA who travelled for the event on the hope of making the Irish team for the European championships. I stayed with Anika's parents when I was at the World championships in August. Anika travelled here from Cork with her grandparents Dan Joe  and  Anne Marie Kelleher from Ovens. I had not met Dan Joe for 40 years. After dinner we had mass on the Feast of Christ the King with Anika and Ava sharing the readings.&nbsp;</p>
<p>After a good breakfast we made the short journey to the course passing Creeslough as people were coming out of Sunday mass. The grief,  seeing the place was palpable. We arrived at the course an hour and a half before the first race at 11.30. The arrangements were wonderful, all the stewards and helpers were so friendly. The course was top class, without a sign of mud, but completely firm with the sand base on all the running terrain. As one who was chief organiser of the same event in Whitetchurch many years ago I took in everything, with a critical eye but it was perfect. I was welcomed with open arms and my journalist needs were arranged with gratitude. A stark contrast to few weeks ago when I was denied admission on two occasions to the field at Pairc ui Chaoimh to take pictures of the 2 schools from Cobh involved in Sciath na Scoil finals. I had no problem a week later in getting on to the field to take pictures of the Cobh V Kilmurry Co Football final.  So armed with my phone and camera I was all set. Ava whose race was 5th on the programme was all set too having done brilliant workouts in recent weeks. I have been involved in her coaching for 6 years and if ever I wished she could get that elusive All-Ireland club this was it. In a very congested field of 146 and an entry of 32 counties Ava ran a very positive race and finished in 35th place and 6th Scorer on the Cork team to take a bronze All-Ireland medal. Another aspect of her achievement was the fact she was running a year above her age group.  It was a huge boost to have Trevor Cummins and his family traveling such a long journey to support  Ava on behalf of the club</p>
<p>Anika's Gold<br>The under 20 ladies race as I have said had a special interest for me . Anika after travelling 6,000 miles from Oregon to compete in the event,  hoping to represent Ireland in 2 weeks time in the European championships in Turin, which she did emphatically. The Senior races were terrific and the fact the East Cork team took silver medals was wonderful. During my time in Killeagh I coached the Junior East Cork ladies team to win the team event 3 years in a row at these championships. On one occasion the event was also held in Donegal and I coached Caroline Daly to win the individual title. Apart from the races it was so uplifting to meet so many old friends. They included Donegal's Danny McDaid. Patsy Mcgonagle 3 time Olympic team manager. Bernie O'Callaghan and his son Pierce director of the Olympic and World athletic championships.<br>The memories of the day will long remain in the memory bank  and made for a pleasant journey home with Carol again doing the driving arriving back at Midnight and my abiding conclusion was  to marvel at the sacrifices parents, make to support their children in whatever sport or recreation they are involved in.</p>

<p>County Juvenile Relay Cross-Country Championships<br><br>Riverstick, Co. Cork  Sunday 13-Nov-2022<br><br>13 of Ballymore Cobh A.C.'s fantastic young athletes were put to the test against the cream of Cork's fittest and finest in this unique event on the cross-country calendar.<br><br>4 ×  500 metre laps with a baton handover on the Cork County Athletics-owned course alongside a generous helping of county bragging rights were what was on the menu. <br><br>In abysmal conditions over a rain-soaked and high wind-hampered mud-fest of a course, we had 3 teams gunning for Cross-Country glory.<br><br>A stellar U/12 Girls team of Maja Olszewska, Sarah Drumgoole, Alison Brennan, Nell Marshall and Molleigh Carolan (as sub and invaluable support) gave their all in a huge field packed with teams from 19 separate clubs.<br>An impressive 8th place finish gives an inkling into their toll and astounding endeavour in challenging conditions.<br>To see these young ladies in action up close and personal would make even the harshest of critics soften in their admiration and appreciation for what they put themselves through for the benefit of the team. <br>Some priceless experience gained and friends made for these 5 ever-improving athletes. <br><br>Our U/14 Boys team had it all to do in a field stacked with highly capable and experienced athletes across a myriad of Cork clubs. <br>Byron Frahill, James Drumgoole, Darragh McCourt and Dáire O'Leary have all put the miles in themselves, though, and would prove a formidable force to be reckoned with for all concerned parties. <br>And so it played out, as the team went out at breakneck speed to complete the first baton handover in 2nd place, then impressively holding that position throughout the race from one handover to the next and earn themselves a quartet of silver medals. County silver medalists - how about that? <br><br>The Ballymore Cobh U/16 Girls team oozed experience, race-savvy know-how and adroitness, plus of course, 4 really nice human beings! <br>A steely-eyed team of Bridget O'Regan, Ava Chandler, Aisling O'Leary and Caoimhe Carolan stepped out of the sheltered raceday tent and into the wet and wind-battered breech. <br>Each girl gave a superb account of themselves, which is all that can be asked of any young athlete - to give their best. <br>Their toil paid off handsomely as each played their part to run themselves over the line and securing first place and the gold medal position. <br>The fastest relay team in Cork - outstanding! <br><br>Each of the above named young Cobh athletes have, throughout this entire calendar year, given their absolute all. Be it listening attentatively at training and implementing drills into their running, or competing in all sorts of weather conditions over a multitude of different disciplines at track, field, road and cross-country events. <br>Athletics may not get as much attention as some of the more traditionally played sports in this country, but we here in Ballymore Cobh A. C. know the work that you've all put in will stand you well in life in general, will compliment your endeavours in other sports you take part in and it's what makes you all giants in our eyes.<br>Stand up and be proud of the fine young men and women that you're becoming.</p>
<h3>Defibillator Training</h3>

<p>Friday night was defibrillator training night for several of our adult members, as they were given first-rate instruction and put through their paces in operating the clubs shiny new fully automatic defibrillator (AED). <br><br>Our sincere gratitude to the goodwill of local men, Gavin Higgins of Stryker, who provided invaluable assistance in sourcing our AED at a reduced rate from his employer, and to fellow Stryker employee, Trevor Hornibrook, who very kindly gave of his time and expertise in providing the training required to operate it.<br><br>Presently, the AED is located inside our clubhouse at the track adjacent to Carrignafoy Community College and may be of use, if needed in a medical emergency, whilst the clubhouse is in use.</p>

<p>Thank you to Liam who did a few hours litter picking near where he lives on Wednesday from Keeffes Woods to Pottery Road as part of his Colaiste an Phiarsaigh volunteer work. <br>Unfortunately yesterday morning the photos show Pottery Road with McDonalds wrappers, cans, vapes strewn all over the road.So it had to be cleaned again! What’s going on in the heads of those in our community who throw their litter out of vehicles ruining our countryside meaning others have to go out and pick it up🤯</p>

<p>Pirates advance to a home semi final of the Munster Junior Shield with a 32-17 win over Kanturk Rugby Club today. First half tries by Jack Worral and Kevin Murphy , both converted by Rory Pierce gave us a 14 point advantage. Josh Crone added a 3rd try before the break to leave the scoreline 19.5 at half time. Pierce added a penalty soon after the break before Sam Kennedy crossed in the corner, Pierce adding the points from the tram line, 29.5. <br>Kanturk rallied with tries of their own before Alex Mulligan got an intercept try from our own 22 to bring the final scoreline to 34.17. <br>We await the home semi final against Galbally/Mitchelstown.</p>
