<h3>Basketball brilliant win for Cobh Intermediate Ladies in National Cup</h3>

 Cobh 64 DCU Mercy 48 It was a fantastic occasion for the club on Saturday with a home game in the Basketball Ireland Women’s National Intermediate cup. Our opponents were DCU Mercy who are based in the Coolock area of Dublin. They are a well established club with many Superleague titles to their name and it was great for our club to play against their Intermediate side. Cobh started really well with two three pointers in the opening minutes which were converted by Mia Tarrant and Amy Duggan. After a slow start DCU settled and there was only a point between the sides at the end of the quarter. Cobh lead 14-13. Eimear Diggin opened the second quarter with a lovely shot and this was quickly followed by a three pointer from her sister Dara. 4 free throws converted by Amy Duggan kept the scoreboard moving in the right direction for Cobh and the quarter ended with two excellent baskets from Sally Palmer. Outscoring DCU by 23-11 in this quarter saw Cobh establish a halftime lead of 37–24. The third quarter is often where games are won and lost and the half-time break gave Cobh a chance to refocus and get set for the second half. DCU came out in the second half determined to make inroads into the Cobh lead but despite a lot of pressure, they had too many misses and it was in fact Cobh who pushed further ahead on the scoreboard. There was a great battle inside between Dara and Maeve O’Seaghda, whose grandfather was from Adrigole in West Cork. As well as doing a great job defensively, Dara hit some big threes to keep Cobh in the ascendancy. Despite some early foul trouble, Zara Smith gave Dara some excellent help on the defensive end. Excellent defence by Anna Ring and Lucy O’Shea and another three pointer by Orlaith Finn helped Cobh stay in front. Further three pointers bye Amy and Dara and baskets from Amy Morrissey and Mia saw Cobh see out the last quarter and qualify for the next round of the cup. Many thanks to both sets of supporters who created a great atmosphere and thoroughly enjoyed a very sporting encounter. U13 Boy’s Basketball Glenmary Nets 41 Cobh 46 Our Under 13 boys team made the short journey to Carrigtwohill to take on East Cork rivals, Glenmary. After a titanic battle, our boys returned home with a great victory. Glenmary had the better of the opening exchanges with Tadhg O’Dowd and Tomás O’Sé prominent. Noah Dorgan kept Cobh in touch scoring all 9 points of Cobh’s opening quarter. Glenmary lead 14–9 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was a well contested quarter. 10 points from Aidan Carney kept Cobh in touch with both sides exchanging basket for basket. Glenmary still held the upper hand at half-time leading 23-19. Baskets from Jack Phelan and Rhys Campbell got Cobh off to a great start in the third quarter where Aidan Carney continued to torment Glenmary who replied with multiple baskets from Tadhg O’Dowd. By the end of the third quarter, the lead was down to the smallest possible margin of one point. Glenmary lead 37-36. Some excellent defence by Cobh turned the tide in favour of the harbour town and with Aidan, Noah and Rhys grabbing vital baskets, Cobh took the lead and a 10-4 quarter saw them snatch a great victory in an excellent game between two teams with loads of potential. U20 Plate Final In the last game of the Cobh camogie season our u20s played the plate final in Páirc Uí Cheallaigh on Friday night . Although beaten by a very strong Midleton team it was great to see 25 girls togged out on a cold November night. Some of the girls have now played their last under age game but we look forward to seeing them line out with our adult teams next season. The commitment and work this group of girls have put in over the years has been exceptional and they have been a pleasure to coach. The future for the club is looking bright keep it up girls.
