<p>A service of reconciliation with prayers and individual confession on Wednesday 21st December at 7pm in St. Colman’s Cathedral. <br><br>Confessions are heard each Saturday from 3pm-4pm in St. Colman’s Cathedral and from 11am-12noon on Christmas Eve.</p>

<p>During a year that provided plenty of reason to celebrate the many successes of local sports teams, the endurance athletes of Cobh also managed to contribute some notable performances of their own in 2022. <br> <br>While initially cutting his teeth over the shorter triathlon distances, in more recent years Michael Bruton had begun making a name for himself on the road racing scene around Cork, regularly achieving podium places in local events, as well as proving himself equally capable on the national athletics scene, whether it be track, road, or cross country he was lining up for. <br> <br>With plenty of potential still left to tap out of his running, a career move to Switzerland saw Michael take up the idea of a switch back to triathlon, and so began the road to a hugely impressive Ironman debut. <br> <br>Luxembourg 70.3 served as a halfway staging post, with a confidence-boosting performance in late June setting him up nicely for the extended challenge of Ironman Barcelona. <br> <br>Flat, fast bike and run routes draw the crowds to Catalonia each October, so to make light of such strong competition when posting a brilliant 13th place overall was a very creditable achievement for the Cobh man, who secured a highly sought-after qualification spot for next year's World Championships, courtesy of his impressive debut over the distance.<br> <br>Not to be outdone, sister Jessica also had a very positive year in the multisport discipline, highlighted by an age category victory at Ironman Youghal, coming on the same day that partner Chris Mintern took the overall win in the men's field. <br> <br>Back in the distance running sphere, another couple of local athletes rose to the challenge of the marathon. Springtime sunshine in Sevilla set Trevor Cummins on his way to a new personal best when he stopped the clock in just over 2 hours and 37 minutes. <br> <br>Partnering Trevor in some of that early-year buildup was Eoin Downing, who himself had an ambitious eye on a marathon debut come October in Dublin. <br> <br>Having patiently developed his endurance over the last couple of years, chalking up new bests in all distances between 5k and half-marathon along the way, Downing’s step up to the marathon promised plenty, and he delivered in style, coming home comfortably under the 2:45 mark on a day when conditions and the course asked questions of even the most experienced campaigners. <br> <br>Making full use of the increased training opportunities that the recent global pandemic presented allowed this Cobh quartet to post a very strong 2022, and with the race calendar now back to its full complement, we can surely expect more big things to come in the year ahead as this group of local athletes put themselves to the test across Europe and beyond.</p>

<p>Pirates enjoyed a BP win today in a foggy Paddocks today. Tries by Jack Gilmartin, Charlie Rasmussen, Cian McNamara and Rory Pierce with Rory adding the 2 conversions to make the score 24.7 against Waterford City Rugby Club .</p>

<p>Our new CD13 has arrived and is in action. <br>After a few months of work we are delighted to welcome our new CD13 to our fleet.<br><br>You may have seen it out at the Santa run where it made its first spin however today is its first day at 'work'.<br><br>This is a huge step for Cobh and we are delighted to welcome it out on its first duty today.<br><br>Today we are at Cyclo-cross in Youghal with Mark, Eilis and Eoin.</p>

<p>The inaugural Christmas dinghy race was a fantastic success, thanks to all our sailors, safety boats and supportive shore teams. It was wonderful to hear the buzz in the club house and the facilities being enjoyed by all members</p>

<p>SATURDAY was all about litter picking, leaf sweeping and drain unblocking. A very disappointing amount of dropped litter absolutely everywhere around town. Thanks to our junior volunteers and TY students for all their efforts today. Great to see Ballymore Cobh A.C. out in full festive running atire and our volunteer Barbara joining in between litter picks 😄<br>Thank you to Irene O Brien for the tasty mince pies and volunteer Jackie for her sausage rolls. ❤️<br>Rumour has it our volunteers will be out on Christmas Eve in Santa hats to make sure the streets of Cobh are spotless for Santa &amp; the reindeer’s arrival from the Northpole to all the children here. Help us keep Cobh clean by using bins and picking up any stray litter where you work or live.<br></p>
