Good Luck to Timmy Wilk on Saturday in the Minor final.
My regret is that I can't make it, after baptism in Dublin at 1pm I am heading off to Poland with another athlete Lilly Frawley and a fab tennis player, now no 2 in Ireland under 12 and she has been invited to Polish National squad training camp so I'm going along with her and her parents Michael and Magda. Another huge achievement and a reward for her dedication to fitness running from January to the end of the lockdown, she trained at least 5 times a week at Carrignafoy and worked her way up from 10 minutes to an hour with her friend Ava. She took part in a video for Irish Runner Magazine to promote the daily mile for Primary schools at Haulbowline and ran 6.08 for an accurately measured mile Timmy took his team to Silver at the National Finals of the Community Games 4 years ago today, hopefully, he will bring home gold on Saturday from Thurles and be the first Polish boy to win an All-Ireland medal for hurling with Cork. I made a prediction 3 years ago that he would be the first Polish boy to make the Cork Hurling team, I could see his determination and what a fine athlete he was. Brilliant to achieve that at 16. We mustn't forget their parents who give them huge support and the clubs as well.
FOUR YEARS AGO TODAY
This is what I wrote on social media 4 years ago: Congrats to the 8 boys and girls who represented Cobh and Cork in the National Finals of the Aldi Community Games at Abbestown on Saturday and Sunday Both the mixed teams under 10 and 13 got through, 2 rounds on Saturday At this level with 32 counties competing this was a magnificent achievement The under 10's ran their hearts but did not get into the medals Ava Chandler, Heather Hurley Ryan McCormick and Sam Dorgan deserve great credit. The under 13 team of Eimear Duggin, Amy McKeown, Alex Joy and Timmy Wilk ran superbly to capture the silver medals in a very exciting race, thanks to all parents and families for their support and Michael Wilk who acted as team manager in place of his wife Natalie who was competing in Donegal in the National rowing finals with Rushbrooke&nbsp;
Natalie in my absence did all the organising. Thanks to Cobh Credit Union for their support. I had huge drama getting to the venue from Celbridge a 20-minute journey took over 2 hours my nephew was driving me there was a traffic jam on the m40 Then we tried the back roads no way through due to triathlon Eventually got back to Leixlip train station and took the train to the city. I was told it would take about an hour walk Abbotstown after 30 minutes walking, a woman rang a taxi for me and I eventually got to the track.
The Under 10's were just over and the under 13's were ready and the rest is history.
I can tell you my heart was severely tested. Driving home now with Michael Wilk happy to have made it and delighted for everybody.
