<h3>Brilliant news from St Mary's - Congratulations Honor</h3>
Huge congratulations to our very own Honor Cronin who was selected as the winner of Irish Water’s Art Competition ‘A Cleaner Harbour - What it Means to Me’. Her artwork shows the positive impact of the Cork Lower Harbour Main Drainage Project as everyone worked together to clean up the harbour.
Honor’s winning artwork will take pride of place beside Irish Water’s Old Town Hall Pumping Station. We are hugely proud of Honor, and of all our pupils who took part in the competition. Well done! We would also like to say a big thank you to Farrans Sorensen Joint Venture on behalf of Irish Water for organizing this competition.

Cobh is part of a massive project to plant 1200 mini fruit tree orchards all around Ireland. The project called DCs for Bees is an initiative of Host in Ireland which is an alliance of Ireland's Data Hosting companies.
Working in collaboration with the Irish National Biodiversity Centre this project will enable Ireland, for the first time to track concurrent pollination success. This is only made possible by planting uniform orchards in multiple locations within the one growing season (Nov 2021 - March 2022)
Each mini orchard consists of exactly the same 5 trees - three Apple varieties, one Plum and one Pear that can each cross-pollinate each other. It is a very positive action for pollinators but is also a great citizen science experimental project. The National Biodiversity Data Centre intends to set up some monitoring around these trees in the future e.g.10 minute flower insect timed counts in spring and then counting the number of apples/pears/plums in autumn (which gives you a very rough idea of pollination service).
In Cobh, 10 orchards are being planted around the community. Planting has already taken place at Bunscoil Rinn an Chabhlaigh, Colaiste Muire and today at St Mary’s NS with the oldest and youngest students planting the Plum Tree. Great fun and citizen science for the students to engage in over the season and years ahead. 
We have delivered each set of 5 trees from Host in Ireland and Cobh Tidy Towns supplied stakes, ties and signage to ensure that the trees get the best start possible.

This Sunday, the second Sunday of Advent, there will be Eucharistic Adoration in St Colman’s Cathedral, starting at 2.30pm. It will conclude with evening prayer and Benediction at 5pm. All welcome.&nbsp;

<h3>Ava and Lilly compete on Sunday In the All-Ireland x country Championships</h3>

All set for the All-Ireland x county championships at Gowran Co Kilkenny on Sunday next. Ava Chandler runs the under 15, 3,500m and is a member of the Cork team while Lilly Frawley runs in the under 13, 2,500m racecourse and represents the Munster and Cork teams, pictured with their coach Fr Liam Kelleher. Both are members of Ballymore Cobh AC.

Our school was selected by Cork County Council to help the wonderfully talented artist Aine Farrell to decorate the Cobh Library for Christmas, here the 5th Yr art group are busy doing workshops to prepare for Christmas.
