<h3>Brilliant under 12 girls football win-- Congats</h3>
An absolutely superb result from our u12s today winning the East Cork Autumn 2021 league final agaist St. Nick’s (2-9 to 2-1) Excellent football played all over the pitch today, in every position and great support from the sidelines.&nbsp;

The girls were tireless in their efforts despite tough conditions with a soft ground and strong wind. Excellent stuff altogether girls 💪🏼🏐

<h3>COBH BASKETBALL</h3>
Congratulations to our U18 Women who have qualified for the quarter finals of the U18 National Cup. We will travel to Clondalkin on the weekend of 19/20 February to face Dublin Lions

At one of four qualifying tournaments this weekend we finished as runners up to a very strong Limerick Celtics team. While Limerick had home advantage it would be fair to say they were deserving winners of the qualifying tournament. Despite losses to Limerick Celtics, the girls secured the second qualifying spot by defeating Glanmire, Belfast Star and Malahide. 
The Malahide game was a de facto semifinal of the tournament and it was a hard fought affair with Cobh finally getting the edge in the final few minutes to record a 61-52 victory. Amy Duggan with 28 points lead the team in scoring. 
On her 18th birthday Orlaith Finn had the honour of captaining the team for this game. 
All of the girls represented the club with great effort and passion. A huge thank you to them for their dedication over the last few difficult years. Also, a big thank you to a group of parents who have followed the girls and are always so positive in their support. It’s been a great journey so far and hopefully more good days to come.

Our u8s opened the 6 Nations weekend Saturday, welcoming Old Christians RFC to the Paddocks for a fun filled Saturday morning.
<h3> Pirates V Scariff</h3>
Pirates welcomed Scariff R.F.C.Scariff to the Paddocks this weekend, in the resumption of the Munster Junior League section D. 
The opening half saw the visitors from the Banner county playing into a very strong wind towards the clubhouse end, with Pirates starting play with the drop of. Scariff received the kick, the attempted clearance fell foul to the headwind allowing Pirates to retrieve and spread the ball wide, Emmet O’Sullivan crossing for the games opening try with less than 90 seconds played. 
Ben Kennedy made a great break down the middle of the field some 10 minutes later, his first of many over the course of the game. Kennedy off loaded to Rory Pierce in support, who continued the charge towards the Newtown corner, feeding Pirate’s flyhalf, and man of the match, Cian Ahern for the 2nd try of the afternoon. Scariff attacked hard from the restart, maintaining solid pressure on the Pirates defence, recycling the ball for numerous phases. Kevin Murphy was first to one such breakdown to make an important turnover allowing Ahern to clear the lines. 
From the resulting line out, Kennedy capitalized on a loose ball, to which he gathered and took flight breaking numerous tackles on the way to score under the posts allowing Pierce to pop over the conversion. Pirates well and truly had the bit between the teeth, and only minutes later Eoin McSweeney broke the visitors 12/13 channel to feed OSullivan, his fellow center. Emmet saw the space behind and chipped through to follow up and score in the Newtown corner again with 30 minutes gone on the clock. 
Soon after Pierce was on point with a penalty after a stoppage of play, the penalty coming from ferocious tackling by Kennedy and front rower Alan Fitzgerald. Scariff were not going away and launched another series of attacks keeping the ball in hand with the wind increasing. Cian Ahern held up one such attack, resulting in a maul that after collapsing rewarded Pirates with the put into the scrum. Ahern cleared his lines giving the visitors a line out on the halfway line. The wind was playing havoc with the line outs as well as the kicking, again Kennedy was first to react and gather the loose ball, taking flight for his second 40m solo run, and try, of the day. 
One final attack had Ian Jones kick chase effort just beaten by the Scariff winger, the final play of the opening half. 
On resumption it was evident that the Pirates back 3 were going to be busy. Scariff threw everything into attack mode, 15 minutes passed before Pirates were able to launch their first attack of the 2nd half, the touch line beating them 5m shy of the club house corner. While the opening half may have been about attacking, the 2nd was certainly about defending, with massive efforts from Mark Lynch and Jack Gilmartin to name but 2 players. With 30 minutes gone, the newly introduced Alex Hanley was unlucky in a kick chase effort, again the sideline being the last defender. Final score 32 – 0 to this young Pirates side with 3 remaining league fixtures.

Returning players Jamie Britton and James Stoat were both on the scoresheet today with a dominating away win in Banteer. Springfield were very pleased to see Club stalwart Jamie Britton return from a lengthy injury to bag a double as well as a goal from one of Cobh’s best footballers James Stoat who has returned to the club following a brief spell with Cobh Wanderers. These goals were added to by the Leagues current Golden Boot leader Shane Geasley, another double by Cobh’s best Croatian import Domagoj Mikleušević and Springfield stalwart Shane McDermott.&nbsp;
Springfield move up to joint second place in the league following the convincing victory however remain in the playoff places as a result of a slightly inferior goal difference. The Cobh men continue with league action next Sunday at Pat O Brien Park versus Castleview, with Springfield looking to make amends for an opening day league defeat to the same opposition back in August.&nbsp;

What a busy Saturday morning!! Litter picking YES, but also making a lasting difference in the place that we call home. Over 20 volunteers removed a truck load of leaves from part of the High Road, finished trimming the perennial flowers on the Five Foot Way, painted more green Electricity boxes, launched our Wildlife Exhibition at Cobh Library and used our branded Coffee Mugs for the first time.
Colm Damery spoke of the nature that is all around us on Great Island, how we can discover it and learn more about it and how important it is to protect it and nurture it. Already visited by many schoolchildren, the Nature Updates from the Great Island Exhibition is beautiful, educational and inspiring. Make sure to visit it!
Our new branded mugs mean that every Saturday from now on our volunteers can enjoy a cuppa without any waste. Thanks to Paulie Buckley who came along to enjoy a Hot Chocolate with us. If you need branded clothing or promotional items Paul's Creations comes highly recommended by us.

<h3>Sad Losses</h3>
This past week Cobh lost two of its best loved community minded people when Marjorie Stafford and Dan Corcoran sadly passed away. We had the pleasure of photographing Marjorie and Dan at some of the many Cobh Hospital Garden Fetes we have attended over the years. We offer our sincere condolences to both their families at this time and may both their gentle souls rest in peace
(Also included in photo with Marjorie is the late Johnny Dorrity who also gave so much of his time to his community and with Dan his loving wife Kathleen)

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our much loved sister and best friend Christine (Cricky) Butler.

UCC Dramatic Society Snow White is being staged in University College Cork next week.&nbsp;
This is Jack's first production staged, and he is delighted.
Jack is a 23 year old from Cobh, and is currently a drama teacher in Rathpeacon National School with Montfort College of Performing Arts. He is a past pupil of CADA Performing Arts and Montfort College of Performing Arts. He studied at Carrignafoy Community College. He is a recent graduate of Drama and Theatre Studies UCC, where he also played Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty (UCC Dramat/Musical Society), and Aaron Schultz (UCC Musical Society).&nbsp;
Jack holds many theatre qualifications in acting, dance, singing, and musical theatre.&nbsp;
Recent credits include: Snots the Singing Elf in Cork North Pole Outpost Experience (TGMS), Matthew in "9 to 5" by Shane Kelleher, Scarecrow in Halloween Spookfest (Wonderworld Productions), Aaron Schultz in "Legally Blonde" and Maleficent in "Sleeping Beauty".
