Tonight Beavers donned their high vis vests and head torches and tackled the stretch of beach between the Camber and our Scout Hall, collecting 2 bags of litter in the dark!!! Very proud of all the Beavers for their hard work supporting Cleancoast Cobh and Cobh Tidy Towns. And it was a new adventure too, one we plan to repeat every few weeks</p>

<p>The Irish Naval Service  has been busy for the past 23 weeks training its  newest members who formed Recruit Class Ciara.</p>
<p>The 27 Recruits of Class CIARA have successfully completed 23 weeks of intensive training preparing them as Ordinary Rates. They will continue their training to commence branch/specialised training prior to being posted to the fleet as Able Rates. Specialised training will include Seamanship, Gunnery, Logistics, Communications and Mechanical/Engineering.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>The class included natives of Cork, Dublin, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford, Kilkenny, Meath, Kerry, Laois, Offlay, Longford, Cavan, Armagh and Tyrone. Three recruits have family members currently serving in the Irish Navy and Army. Recruit Class CIARA has nine female members and 2 of the Recruits are of Lithuanian decent.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;The recruit class is named for the Naval Service vessel LÉ CIARA (P42) which has served with the Defence Forces since 1989. LÉ CIARA is currently still commissioned. LÉ CIARA is a Coastal Patrol Vessel and was previously known as HMS SWALLOW of the Royal Navy.&nbsp;</p>
<p>During their training the recruits raised €5322 for the Cope Foundation with a 24 hour runathon carried out in the new Haulbowline Amenity Park.&nbsp;</p>
<p>This is the first Passing Out parade on the Naval Base with family and friends after the easing of national COVID-19 restrictions.</p>

<h3><span style="color: rgb(184,49,47);">Grant Boost for Pirates</span></h3>
<p>Cobh PIRATES RFC were delighted to learn of their grant award through the Capital Sports Grant. The funds awarded will go towards the always ongoing maintenance and development of the clubs playing surfaces and the associated equipment. Many thanks to the committee members, current and past, who contributed to the application for these much appreciated funds. With the growing number of children and adults availing of the facilities within the club, the investment comes at a much appropriate time. The club will use this funding  to enhance our capability of supporting the greater community of Cobh, the Great Island and beyond.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Our students planted bulbs in pots earlier in the school year and are now getting ready to plant them into the ground, just in time for spring!&nbsp;</p>
