<h3>SPRINGFIELD Boys ON THE NATIONAL STAGE</h3>

Historic Day for Springfield Ramblers competing in the National cup at home on Sunday against the most successful under age club in the country. St Kevin's of Dublin have produced many Irish Internationals. Despite losing 3-0 Springfield youngsters stood toe to toe with their more illustrious rivals. While their great run has come to an end, they will look back with pride on their achievement in the coming years, well done to all the players their manager coaches and parents. It was so gratifying to see the boys cheered on, by a big crowd, playing on their own turf. There is a great future for the sport in Cobh. I also braved the bitterly cold weather for the game as i did for the under 17 girls on Saturday again making history being the first Ladies team from Cobh Ramblers competing in the League of Ireland at this level. The standard was excellent and while the girls were on the wrong side of a 3-2 scoreline they too can look back with pride on their first excursion into a National league competition. The long weekend of football began with another 2 hour battle with the cold at St Colman's Park on Friday night when Ramblers eked out a merited draw 0-0 against game favourites Treaty Limerick. Again like the week before the atmosphere was great with a fine attendance, kept entertained right to the end. It was wonderful to see the boys and girls under 12 teams taking part in the National cup being introduced to the crowd at half time. On Sunday next its the girls day when they take part in the National cup, in Tipperary best wishes to Steve and his squad.

<h3>Pirates Junior team welcomed Ennis Rugby Club to the Paddock yesterday for their 2nd visit in recent weeks. </h3>

On a dry cold day, Pirates started the game with the Easterly wind in their backs playing towards the clubhouse end. With only 2 minutes on the clock, Pirates out-half Cian Ahern put the first points on the board in with a well taken 3 pointer.&nbsp;
The intent and tempo from Pirates was evident from the start, with some ferocious defense being shown. The first 15 minutes saw Ben Kennedy and Storm Le Roux making vital turn overs when the visitors were trying to set up attacking platforms. On the 18th minute some superb inter linking and passing between the pack and backline saw Aaron O’Flynn cross the whitewash in the clubhouse corner. Ennis continued to push froward from the restart, with O’Flynn now settling in alongside Kennedy and Mark Lynch to create problems for Banner men each time they attacked. One such turn over inside the Newtown end 22 yard line released Conor McNamara down the side line, only the line acting as the 16th defender halted his progress well inside the Ennis half.&nbsp;
Soon after scrum half Kevin Murphy found a few inches of space to set Cian Aherne free, with Le Roux in support, gaining 40 meters with the ball in hand to be stopped 5 meters short of the line.&nbsp;
2 minutes before the halftime break, Ennis slotted over a penalty for their first score of the game, leaving the score at half time 8-3 in Pirates favour.&nbsp;
The 2nd half commenced in a similar fashion to the 1st, this time with Ennis having a shot at the post very early, only to drop short. Only minutes later, Le Roux read an attack perfectly, intercepting a pass in the 13 channel, setting flight and releasing Conor McNamara down the wing. (Some of the large crowd in attendance wondered where Conor inherited the pace from !) Storm was first in support of Conor and received the inside pass to cross over under the posts for Pirates second try of the game, Aherne adding the 2 points to bring the score line to 15-3. Aherne was to get another shot at the posts only minutes later after a superb effort from the Pirates pack saw them take a scrum against the head, Pirates scrumhalf Kevin Murphy reacting to the situation quickly with the resulting defensive effort deemed illegal by the referee. The penalty was added to bring the score line to 18-3. Just inside the final quarter of the game, Pirates worked their way into Hallahan’s corner, with prop Steven Blake taking a pop pass at full tilt to cross over for the games 3rd try, 23-3 Pirates.&nbsp;
Inside the final 10 minutes, Ennis were to score 2 tries within 5 minutes of each other, to bring the score to 23-15 with all to play for as added time approached. A scrum was won 30m from Hallahan’s corner as Pirates crouched down for what was to be the last play of the game. Kennedy, who had slotted into the number 8 position, picked from the base of the scrum and attacked the blind side with club Captain Ian Jones in support. Jones assistance was not needed however, as Kennedy beat no less than 3 defenders to touch down for the 4th and bonus point try. Aherne was very unlucky with the conversion, hitting the upright for the 2nd time in the game.&nbsp;
Final score was Pirates 28-15 Ennis.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Colaiste Muire. On Monday last our TY Class embarked on a week long adventure connecting with their local surroundings, developing life skills, and achieving personal goals for themselves.

Day 1 saw them set sail to visit the Irish Naval Headquarters on the Island of Haulbowline and the National Maritime College of Ireland, (NMCI) @nmciservices. While on the island they received a tour of the Irish Naval Base from past pupil, Shane and his colleagues, developing their knowledge of our Naval Service and explored the new recreational park, taking in views of Cobh and the lower harbour. They even waved off the LE James Joyce as they set off on their latest sea patrol.&nbsp;
They then connected with Cormac and Greg at the NMCI where they gained an insight into the careers on offer in the Maritime industry. They got to experience the navigation simulator, the training pool and the fire training elements of the NMCI.&nbsp;
They finally sailed into the sunset returning to Cobh with a wealth of knowledge and lots of career options in the maritime industry.&nbsp;
Many thanks to everyone involved in our trip last Monday. A great day was had by all.&nbsp;
