Our heartfelt condolences to team member Viv on the loss of her wonderful mother in law Betty. To David and all the Hally family we extend our deepest sympathies at this very sad time.&nbsp;
Betty was known far and wide in Cobh and beloved by many. She was a wonderful actress with Haulbowline Theatre Group (and a great friend of Claire our late founder) and also a member of Rushbrooke Tennis &amp; Croquet Club.
May Betty's gentle soul rest in peace

The officers, Committee &amp; members would like to offer our deepest sympathies to the Hally Family on the passing of Betty.
Betty was a member for over 40 years, the majority of which was spent enjoying the club's croquet lawns.
She first served on Committee in 1993 and was subsequently elected as club Croquet Captain from 1994 to 2003.
A winner of each of the clubs croquet competitions in her paying days, she won her last title in 2011.
Betty served as Club President between 2011-2014.
A competitive disciplinarian on the croquet lawn but a loyal friend off it.
She will be missed by her many croquet friends &amp; the wider tennis membership.&nbsp;
As a mark of respect to Betty, the club will close from 2-6pm this coming Saturday, January 8th.
May she rest in Peace.

We are pleased to announce the return of defender Breandán Frahill to the club for the 2022 season. The centre back re-joins the club from Cobh Wanderers, having left Ramblers in 2015 after 79 first team appearances.
“I’m delighted to be back, it’s an exciting time for the club and it’s made great progress in recent years. The staff and team environment is really professional and I’m really looking forward to being back at St Colman’s Park with a large support for the club’s 100th year.”

Great to see high numbers attending the Cobh Ramblers FC Ladies Un17 open trial at the Stephen Ireland Astro Turf Complex.
A very sharp session in cold conditions and great to see things coming together.

Further to a Munster Branch Meeting this week in light of the current high number of Covid-19 cases, fixtures for this weekend have been rescheduled.

Training at all age grades will take place in a controlled setting going forward.
The complete list of rescheduled J1 fixtures will be posted once the new dates are confirmed by the competitions secretary.
The juvenile fixtures will be fixed week to week for the next few weekends and notices will be sent to the player groups and updates will be posted on the page.

<h3>Our U16 Girls started off 2022 with a great win over Brunell in the Parochial Hall. </h3>
A starting five of Leah Duggan, Lucy O’Shea, Leah O’Connell, Sally Palmer and Sarahrose Walsh got Cobh off to a great start and they dominated the first quarter. Cobh lead by 9 at the end of the quarter with all five starters on the scoresheet.&nbsp;
Brunell responded well in the second quarter with Laura Hannigan and Abbie Lyons doing well and this was a much more even quarter. Baskets from Lucy O’Shea, Leah Duggan, Sally Palmer, Sarahrose Walsh and Ruby O’Rourke maintained the lead and Cobh lead by 7 at half time. Eve Daly Brennan did well in this quarter with some excellent defence and passing.&nbsp;
Sarahrose and Leah O’Connell got the scoring going in the third quarter. Excellent free throw shooting by Leah Duggan and two baskets from Katie Tarrant ensured that the result was never in doubt as Cobh dominated the third quarter. Further baskets by Lucy and Sally saw Cobh score 20 points in this quarter.&nbsp;
Three baskets from Sarahrose were added to by Lydia Kahn and Katie in the final quarter. Ruby followed up a successful free throw with a rebound and finish to end the scoring.&nbsp;
The Cobh coaches were pleased with the offensive discipline of their players as they kept good spacing and ran their offence very well. The passing and cutting showed good awareness on offence and accompanied by great effort on defence ensured that Cobh took home the points.&nbsp;
Next up is a home game to Crosshaven on Wednesday next at 18:45.&nbsp;

Congratulations to Irene Fernandez De Caleya Miquel who has committed to Casper College in Wyoming, USA. Irene played for Cobh in the season 2019/20 when she attended Cobh CC on student exchange. A fantastic player with a great future in the game. Well done Irene.

They feature as part of the 'Conscious Lee' awareness campaign by Munster Technological University - Cork &amp; Crawford Art Gallery's 'Creativity and Change' course.&nbsp;

<h2>Spike Island Renovation</h2>

Just two of Spike Islands epic blocks await restoration, something our not for profit business is planning in time. Your visits help make this restoration work possible, with 6 of the forts 8 major spaces now brought back to life, &amp; further interpretation planned. The ‘A’ block was the very first block built in the 1804 fortress and it held soldiers, then the very first prisoners when the prison opened in 1847. It returned to military use in 1883 and was in constant use until 1985, when a riot in the recently opened ‘young offenders’ prison saw it burned out.&nbsp;
Next to the ‘A’ block stands the ornate 1915 block, which was the seat of power in the fort. The prison governor or forts commander occupied its space. It stood tall from the early 1800’s until 1915, when a mysterious fire broke out in the accountants office the night before an audit. Perhaps only supposed to be confined to the accounts, it spread and devoured the whole building.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The Spike Island masterplan proposed various uses for these large spaces, including a Cork maritime &amp; science museum, a national penal museum, and other options. We excitedly await the day we can plan their restoration and reopening.
