<h3>Lent begins next week, one of the traditional practices of Lent is fasting.&nbsp;</h3>

We are told in Matthew 4:1-11 that Jesus spent forty days fasting in the wilderness and afterwards “he was starving.”
While many fast from eating meat on certain days during Lent, here are some words of reflections from Pope Francis to consider this Lent.&nbsp;

Deputy Stanton said, “Recognising the central role of primary and second level schools in their local communities, Fine Gael wants to strongly encourage and support the use of school buildings outside of school hours by community and youth clubs and organisations. This would be of great benefit to a wide range of community groups, especially in areas where there are no community halls, community rooms and sports facilities available to the community.

In a recent survey carried out by Sinn Féin, 76% of respondents said that rising living costs are causing huge concern and untold hardship. It is clear that we have a cost of living crisis and Sinn Féin believes that it is time for a bailout for workers and hard-pressed families.
<h3>The purpose of this meeting, therefore, is to explain how Sinn Féin would tackle the spiralling cost of living and what proposals and packages of measures we believe are required to get money back into people's pockets at a time when they need it most. </h3>

We also go around the parishes to hear how you the listeners are getting on, hear the most embarrassing running story of the week and try to figure out a way to stop negative self-talk creep into your race experience. Trevor also feels on his extraordinary PB performance at the Seville marathon over the weekend. Big thanks, Sonia O'Sullivan as always. Her no nonsense advice and coaching has got off the couch on the track. Something I never thought possible.

The Shoemaker
The bell rung when I entered the shop
as it did on many days,
while the shoemaker working at his last
paused and held me in his gaze.
The shop effused a quiet aura
and a leather smell filled the air.
It felt like a different world,
in a peaceful atmosphere.
Old shoes stacked on the shelves,
sit there with names tags bound.
Silently waiting for their owners to return
and walk them again on the ground.
“Can I help you”, he said
as I placed the shoes on his counter,
then he held them gently in his hands
for his quizzical mind to ponder.
With patience and courtesy
he would always politely ask,
the nature of the problem
and the purpose of his task.He threw his eyes on the stitches
whilst closely examining the pair,
turning them over to look at
the heels and soles for wear.
He had a calm demeanour,
there wasn’t any improper rush,
he told me the date they’d be ready
in a quiet sort of a hush.
I marvelled at his service 
as he spoke in a mannerly tone.
He gave to me, his time
with no distraction of a phone.
But alas his trade is of a foregone age,
people now seldom opt for repair
but a time will come when we’ll lament his loss
and our shoes will begin to tear.
After our unhurried discussion,
I said goodbye and wished him well.
Then I left to the sound once more,
of the ringing door bell.

The above original poem was written as a tribute to the late Daniel “Christy” Corcoran (1936-2022), Shoemaker in Cobh, County Cork who sadly passed away on the 4th February 2022. He operated a shoemaker business in Cobh for over 50 years.

Gaia: What If the Meteorites Would Talk
Salomé Lamas (b. 1987, Portugal) is a filmmaker, artist, and researcher based in Lisbon. Her project GAIA investigates bodies of rock by tracing mythological, scientific, and aesthetic observations. The notion of Gaia was popularized by the British scientists James Lovelock and Lynn Margulis in the late 1960s; it postulates the planet as a living, self-regulating organism where all matter is interconnected.
The artist purchased a meteorite on eBay. According to a certificate of authentication, it originates from Campo del Cielo, a crater in Argentina containing iron masses dating back 4200 to 4700 years ago. The phenomenon of meteorites falling to Earth ruptures the idea of Gaia as a single unit separate from outer space, and instead proposes a permeable membrane where matter in the cosmos may enter the planet’s atmosphere.
This film overlays an image of the meteorite with Earth’s sediments as a form of communication between cosmic and terrestrial bodies of rock. In the crevices of this meteorite image lies a QR code that facilitates an online connection with a set of sound pieces (also compiled as a vinyl record) made by twelve musicians with whom Lamas collaborated.
This representation of the meteorite serves as the background for a text written by Lamas in dialogue with the philosopher Fédéric Neyrat. Here, the artist introduces and elaborates on the term “atopia,” which suggests an idea, a place, or a state situated between utopia and dystopia.

The film suggests how our understandings of borders, interconnectivity, and affectability communicated by a nonhuman agent, which has traveled from the cosmos, could explain such concepts through different spatial and temporal arrangements and principles. It also puts forward unlikely connections between cosmic matter and capitalist e-platforms to evidence how fluctuating temporalities ranging from Deep Time and rapid, extractive capital can meet through matter.
