Brilliant victory for Pirates in the Munster u18 final defeating Waterpark 33-27 in a thrill a minute game. Well done to the and team mentors and fantastic supporters who roared them on to fashion a winning try at the very end. These are just 60 of todays pictures another 200 to come. I look at each picture i take individually to ensure that their quality is up to the mark. With the Sonia Cobh 10 race today as well it will take me some time hopefully i will post them some time on Monday. I still have to update the Xplore Local Cobh App on Sunday evening, on Friday 20 news stories from Cobh were uploaded and another 12 on Saturday and I expect another 20 more for today. For those who do not know I took great pride when I was publishing the printed copy of Cobh News for some years. Now I can update the news everyday with the support and co-operation of all the clubs and organisations on the Great Island. There are 200 listings on the App, its free and can be dowloaded on Apple or Google. Just search for Xplore Local and pick your town Cobh.

Fab day for Sonia 10 miler I missed the start I celebrated the 10am mass in the cathedral. I also missed most of presentations I thought presentations were in Community centre per usual. There was a great atmosphere on the Promenade. Well done to Ballymore/Cobh for their huge efforts and well done to all the athletes competing. Thanks to Sonia who spent nearly 2 hours posing for photographs, joined by fellow Olympians Rob Heffernan and Derval O'Rourke. Delighted to see Sonia's sister GillianGillian present who arrived from Australia last night. I will post more later from my camera. I met Steve Davis on my way back to my house he is the sponsor of the under 18's Pirates who are playing the Munster final at Musgrave Park at 3pm and I promised I would cover that for the Xplore local Cobh App. This can be downloaded free on Apple or Google just search xplore local and select Cobh.

Big contribution by Springfield Seniors for Cork

A huge well done to the Cork Senior Woman's team on an emphatic win over Clare. Ava Field and Jess Geasley getting on the scoresheet and Tiffany Taylor on captaining the side. Great to have so many of our players in the squad.

Sailing trophy passed on

Club member Cathy Mullen passing the John Doyle trophy to Anne O'Connell for the month of April. Cathy won the trophy last year and decided to nominate a CSC female sailor each month. We'll done Anne, it's in safe hands.

Clean Coast

This afternoon's beach clean found us in a stunning spot at the back of the island, looking out on the back of Belvelly Castle.

High tide brings the water right up to the boggy coastline and between rubbish from the tide and years of dumped rubbish thrown in over the hedge, the area was badly in need of some TLC. We found everything from car parts to part of the kitchen sink!

Thanks to the local residents who came out to join Clean Coasts Cobh and Cobh Tidy Towns volunteers to show some love for our island's coastline!

Bob Thompson RIP

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Bob Thompson today, 03 Apr 2022. Bob was one of the founding members of the 4th Cork Cobh Sea Scout Troop and the hall is named after himself and his wife Ada. It is impossible to mention here in the short few sentences the huge impact Bob has had on the countless young people he has taught over the many many years that he was at the Helm. We have no doubt there will be some great memories and reflections of our time with Bob over the next few days. We only mentioned to our current scouts Thursday last on how lucky some of us were to spend 6 days a week throughout the summer sailing with Bob. I think looking back now he looked upon us all as his own children as well as his scouts. Bob gave up every Sunday to hike us around the Island for countless years. At this sad time we should all be hugely proud of our time with Bob and be thankful for how Bob was a huge influence on so many of us over the years. “To give and not count the Cost”

Along the shore I spy a ship As she set out to sea;

She spreads her sails and sniffs the breeze

And slips away from me.

I watch her fading image shrink,

As she moves on and on, Until at last she’s but a speck,

Then someone says, “She’s gone.”

Gone where? Gone only form our sight

And from our farewell cries;

That ship will somewhere reappear to other eager eyes.

Beyond the dim horizon’s rim, resound the welcome drums,

And while we’re crying, There she goes!

They’re shouting, Here she comes!

We’re built to cruise for but a while

Upon the trackless sea

Until one day we sail away into infinity.

Nana Collins RIP

Heaven just got a whole lot brighter

Rest easy Nana Collins we love you ❤️
