<h3>&nbsp;🏆Garda Youth Awards 2022 🏆</h3>

<p>Congratulations to TY Student, Rian who received an Individual Award at the Garda Youth Awards last week. He received this award for making a positive contribution to his community and making it a better place to live.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Last Christmas Rian, coordinated our school Food Drive for Cork Penny Dinners, resulting in huge amounts of donations for the charity.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Thirty Garda National Youth Awards for 2022 have been presented to hundreds of outstanding young people throughout the country at local presentations in their respective areas.&nbsp;</p>
<p>All of the award winners are excellent examples of young people who give up their free time to help and support others. This is an especially strong message for all us at a time when we all individually and collectively across all age groups have to continue to work together to reduce the spread of Covid-19.</p>
<p>The Garda Youth Awards, at Divisional and National level, celebrates outstanding young people aged between 13 and 21 years, and recognises the good work they are doing throughout their communities.</p>
<p>The first ever Garda Divisional Youth Awards was created by a local Juvenile Liaison Officer in West Cork in 1995. He noticed that the young people in the community were doing tremendous things which deserved recognition. The awards have grown in leaps and bounds since then.</p>
<p>In 2019, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris launched the first ever An Garda Síochána National Youth Awards saying “The inaugural Garda National Youth Awards will be a showcase for the positive contribution young people are making in their communities. The awards at national and divisional level are a great way for Gardaí to develop strong relationships with community groups and young people in their area.”</p>

<p>Here we would like to give a special mention to our own volunteers and say a big thank you to them for their hours of work, from medical Cover on duties to their trojian work over the COVID-19 pandemic to the Ukranian appeal, our volunteers answered the call to help and rose to the occasion.</p>
<p>Our work is not possible without our amazing volunteers ( and their families !)  Who give up weekends to help others.&nbsp;</p>

<p>We don't think there's any Cork man in the whole wide whole world that shows up to race in Kerry as much as our own Alex Eaton.</p>
<p>Another lovely effort from Alex was had at the Dingle Half Marathon recently, where despite being hampered by a troublesome hip issue, he gave it short shrift to clock in at a snazzy 1:43. Not too bad at all, at all.</p>
<p>He's back, baby. Returning to the black and amber after a short hiatus in parts unknown where he tells us he "found himself", Peter Howie was up for it at the Rosscarbery Surf 'N' Turf 10k, clocking a sweet 49:57. His running brings all the boys to the yard, does Pete's.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The Bweeng Trailblazers hosted their annual 5k last week and steaming it like he means it was Shane "Who's Your Daddy" O'Regan. The newest Daddy in the club ran red-eyed and sleep-deprived but that didn't stop him luxuriating in a slap, bang, thank you, ma'am new PB of 19:00. Is there anything this man can't turn his hand to?&nbsp;</p>
<p>This pair are as tight as a bull's arse going up a hill. Eoin Downing and Trevor Cummins (both of TWT) took on the John Buckley Sports BHAA 5K at the Marina on Wednesday with relish and gusto, racing each other stride for stride.&nbsp;</p>
<p>He ain't no show pony, he's a thoroughbred is our Eoin. Continuing his rich vein of recent form and riding high on exuberance as our April Club Member of the Month, Eoin only popped out a stunning 16:10 PB for himself.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Moving at an almost identical and frenzied pace was Trevor, relentless in his endeavour and keeping at it until the juices ran clear to land himself a big PB of 16:14.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Also running on the night was our man, Shane O'Regan. Bleary-eyed, clutching a tenner and a list to stop off on the way home and pick up a  Pampers Harmony Carry Pack (26 Piece), plus with baby sick stuck to his shoulder unbeknownst to the poor crater, Shane somehow managed to blow the cotton socks off his Bweeng PB of a week previous with a fantastic 18:42 around the Marina.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>The Earth Like Tea</h3>

<p>Samuel Levack is a London-based artist who often collaborates with Jennifer Lewandowski. Their practice spans film, performance, photography, text, and music, and explores themes of utopia and spiritualism. They use image making and storytelling techniques to create dreamlike visions of territories, whether rural or urban, that operate as poetic meditations on nature and social life. Specifically, Levack deals with forms of community building, and his work often depicts urban scenarios.</p>
<p>This film emerged from a residency at Mendes Wood DM, Brussels, in 2019. During his time in Brussels, Levak captured footage of the urban scenario while walking around the city. Specifically, he addressed the architecture and ambiance of the Royal Greenhouses of Laeken, creating documentation that includes striking colors and collage techniques.</p>
<p>The Royal Greenhouses of Laeken resonate with places such as Kew Gardens in London, and the colonialist foundations to these structures are addressed through the ghostly and haunting lexicon of poetic readings and music soundings. The title addresses how the tea trade relates to the British colonial enterprise and its extremely damaging impact in the Global South.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The work is a critical inquiry into seeing and being seen in spaces of multispecies voyeurism. It also displays wealth and power through the different depicted architectural styles, ranging from the nineteenth century to modernism, all of which are haunted by the ghosts of colonial domination.</p>

<h3>Cobh is well known across the world, for many reasons. Here’s just a few of those!</h3>

<p>Cobh was the departure point for 2.5 million of the 6 million Irish people who emigrated to North America between 1848 and 1950. These included Annie Moore and her two brothers – the first immigrants to be processed on Ellis Island in New York.</p>
<p>On 11 April 1912 it was the final port of call for the RMS Titanic as she set out across the Atlantic on her ill-fated maiden voyage.</p>
<p>The RMS Lusitania was sunk by a German U-Boat off the Old Head of Kinsale on May 7, 1915. The survivors were brought to the town of Cobh, and over one hundred victims lie buried in the Old Church Cemetery about a mile north of the town.</p>
