Ramblers are back in home action this Friday night as Munster rivals Treaty United travel to Cobh. Coming into the game on the back of last week’s opening 3-2 loss to Wexford, the Rams will look to put that behind them in St Colman’s Park.
Treaty’s home tie against Athlone last week was postponed due to an unplayable pitch so their season opening 5-1 win against Wexford is their sole outing so far. That impressive win opened Treaty’s second season in Irish football with a bang and the Limerick outfit will be hoping to build on last year’s fourth place finish under Tommy Barrett.
The first meeting of the sides last season ended 1-1 in Markets Field before Treaty picked up 2-0 and 3-0 wins over the Rams later in the campaign.
Team News: Centre back Breandán Frahill is suspended after his red card against Wexford while Darryl Walsh remains out with an ankle problem.

I was happy to score myself, to come away with nothing is disappointing but that’s football and we want to push on against Treaty. The support was top class, we thrived at that. Great night for football at St Colman's Park after a very entertaining game, it ended in stalemate with no score. As scoreless draws this certainly was not a tame game which crunching tackles with a number of yellow cards issued. Ramblers defense were in no mood to capitulate and never gave a inch away. Man of the match Harlain Mbayo was utterly dominant and diminutive Iassa Kargbo was a revelation like he was last week. At the opposite end Ramblers created the more clear cut chances and at the three quarter stage only two superb stops from the Treaty keeper Jack Brady kept Ramblers at bay. Again the crowd was bigger than last week got plenty to cheer about and the small but voiceifer traveling supporters added to the atmosphere. At halftime the younger generation who are having a brilliant run in the National cup were introduced to the appreciative audience. This was a difficult game for Cobh and a win would have done nicely, but at least getting a point will give an uplift that was really needed.

A huge weekend in Cobh for Woman's football as Cobh Ramblers FC first ever Woman's National League open their season with a home tie vs Bray Wanderers AFC at 5.00p.m in the Stephen Ireland Astroturf.

The team is managed by senior player Aoife O'Brien and former Springfield Ramblers players Aine Sheridan, Aine Griffin and Rosie Speakman feature in the squad.&nbsp;

A busy enough weekend again for local football clubs, starting off tonight with two 7.45pm kick-offs which sees Cobh Wanderers Juniors face Midleton in the Beamish Stout Junior 1st Division at Old Church Park Stephen Ireland Astro and Cobh Ramblers entertain Treaty Utd at St.Colmans Park as they go looking for their first win of the new campaign.
Saturday will see history made at the Old Church Park Stephen Ireland Astro as Cobh Ramblers field a women's team for the first time in a national league as the U17 face Bray Wanderers in the SSE Airtricity sponsored Women's National League at 5pm whilst Ramblers U17 men's side take on Waterford at 2pm at the same venue. Ramblers U14s are away to Cork City in Mayfield at 2pm. Springfield Ramblers U17s face Youghal Utd in the Teddy Healy Cup at John Murphy Memorial Park at 2pm.
Sunday has four games up for decision with Springfield AFC line out against Greenwood 'A' in the 'AUL Premier A' at 10.45am in Pat O'Brien Park and Springfield Ramblers U18 are home to Blarney Utd at 2pm in John Murphy Memorial Park. Two Cobh Ramblers Academy games as the U15 are away to Cork City in Passage at 2pm and the U19s travel to Bray Wanderers for a 2.30pm KO in Enniskerry.

&nbsp;The U15 girls qualified for the semi final of the CLBB Championship with an excellent victory over Carraig na bhFear.

&nbsp;After a couple of early misses, Cobh settled and a free throw by Lucy Walsh got things going. 8 points from Francesco Kyamagero helped Cobh to a 9-6 first quarter lead.&nbsp;
The second quarter saw Cobh play some lovely basketball. With Ruby O’Rourke and Katie Tarrant pushing the pace, Cobh dominated this quarter. Baskets from Lucy, Katie, Francesca, Kate Cronin and Katie Tarrant (2) saw Cobh establish a 16 point interval lead.&nbsp;
Quarter 3 saw Cobh continue to dominate. Isabelle Bardsley was working really hard on defence and with Grace Anderson securing great rebounds, Cobh continued to fast break to great effect. More points from Lucy, Francesca, Katie (4), Isabelle and Grace capped an excellent quarter.&nbsp;
The final quarter was closer. The excellent Avril O’Sullivan fought hard for Carraig na bhFear and got great help from Nikki Hosford. Lydia Kahn and Ruby O’Rourke combined well for Cobh who finished the game strongly to advance to a semi final meeting with Mallow.&nbsp;
Lucy and Francesca had 14 points each followed by Katie with 13. Overall it was a very good team performance with every player making their contribution to the win.&nbsp;
The 15s have two games next week. A Tuesday home game v Glanmire at 6 pm is followed by a road trip to Mallow on Thursday.&nbsp;

<h3>Munster Schools x country.</h3>

&nbsp;For over 50 years I have advocated that x country should be an integral part of every school. That branch of sport is the basic way to condition young people for all other sports. After over 2 years missing the event it was great to attend the Munster schools championships at Riverstick. In all there were 8 races on the programme under 14, 15, 17 and 19. all run off with clockwork efficiency credit to the organizing committee led by former Olympian Liam O'Brien retired from teaching at Mudleton CBS. Following 3 regional championships, South, North, and East Munster, nine teams and a number of individuals qualified for each race. From a Cobh point of view just 5 islanders made it to the big day, which considering the numbers in the schools in Cobh and those who attend schools off the island seems very small. Just one Aine Sheridan Colaiste Muire from a Cobh school, who does her club running with Carrignavar. The beauty about x country is the team aspect of the sport and that is hugely important is to have the support and backing of the team. Aine made her 3rd All-Ireland x country event of the season by finishing 9th in the under 17 race with the top 12 as well as the top 3,teams qualifying for the All-Ireland championships at Belfast on Saturday next. Most success came from St Als Carrigtwohil who finished 3rd team in the under 15 event. Ava Chandler who had finished 17th in the South Munster ran the best race of the season to finish 13th, which would not have got her into the Belfast race, but with her team qualified helped by her club mate Aisling O'Leary who finished 37th. So Belfast is the next stop for them. Another Ballymore-Cobh club mate Caoimhe Carolan, just overage for under 15, schools ages are taken from the 31st of July, so she had to move up to under 17 she had no team to back her up, after a gutsy race she finished 34th. Another Cobh native Oisin Dorgan, who to my knowledge does not run with a club and he finished 5th in the under 15 race running for Rochestown college leading his school to the silver team medals.

<h3> Colaiste Muire</h3>
Two 5th year students, Jenny Bell &amp; Muireann Ní Loingsigh, took part in the EU Aistritheoirí Óga competition.&nbsp;
The competition required them to translate a previously unseen text from English to Irish within one hour.&nbsp;
