We hope to see approx. 90 cruise ships between April and November 2022. The first cruise ship to dock in Cobh will be the ‘Borealis' on Good Friday, 15th April.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Such a great day yesterday when Frank received his Walter Scheel medal and joined previous laureates Pierre Emmanuel Taittinger, Ferran Adria and Carlo Petrini of Slow Food, for his contribution to the preservation of European Food Culture.

The fine but cold weather brought out a huge crowd to the Promenade on Friday morning. The atmosphere was electric as friends, and customers gathered at the weekly market, to congratulate Frank and Caroline and their team, on their wonderful award, a fitting tribute for 40 years of a labour of love, in growing the Hederman smoked fish business at Belvelly into what it is today, tops of the European league. It was very appropriate that it kicked off the 40th anniversary forthcoming celebrations. On a political level it was nice to observe David Stanton TD former Minister of State, row in with his congratulations. Now doubt the achievement of Frank and his team, will further enhance the status of their operation in producing food of the highest standard. A well deserved congratulations to all.

We are thrilled to be celebrating Autism Awareness this week at Bunscoil Rinn an Chabhlaigh!
Over the week, our students will be taking part in lots of fun learning activities relating to Autism and we will be sharing these moments with you through our social media!
We will also be exploring some of our school children's favourite quotes about Autism each day this week!
Today, they have selected an acrostic poem, "Autism: It's not a disability, it's a different ability!
<h2>Pope Francis : Person with autism can be a Good Samaritan</h2>

On this Friday, the eve of World Autism Awareness Day, Pope Francis met a delegation from the Italian Autism Foundation (FIA). He encouraged a culture of inclusion, participation, and solidarity for those suffering from the disorder.&nbsp;
&nbsp;Pope Francis on Friday urged for a culture of inclusion, belonging and solidarity for persons with autism so that they not only receive attention but also participate in and contribute to society. He made the exhortation in his meeting with over 200 representatives of the Italian Autism Foundation (FIA), on the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day, April 2, Saturday.&nbsp;
Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviours, speech and nonverbal communication.
The Holy Father thanked the foundation saying through their research projects and initiatives in favour of the weakest and most disadvantaged, they are making a valuable contribution to the fight against the "throw-away culture prevalent in our society that is too focused on competition and profit."

<h3>Culture of inclusion and belonging</h3>
In this regard, he encouraged a culture of inclusion and belonging. Disability, in all its forms, he said, represents a challenge and an opportunity to build together a more inclusive and civil society, where family members, teachers, and associations like FIA are not left alone but are supported.
This calls for raising awareness about autism spectrum disorder, breaking down prejudices, and promoting a culture of inclusion and belonging, based on the dignity of the person. He said that men and women who are more fragile and vulnerable are too often marginalised are actually a great asset to society.
Nevertheless, many people with autism are gaining good work experience while others are dedicating themselves to helping others, as did St Margaret of Città di Castello, a young Italian woman with a disability who dedicated her life to the Lord in the service of the poor. “And on this road people with disabilities are not only the object of care but also the subject,” the Pope stressed. “The Samaritan can be the person with a disability, with autism, who becomes a neighbour to others, putting his or her talents at the service of the community.”
<h3>Participation</h3>
The Holy Father said an essential aspect of the culture of inclusion is the possibility for people with disabilities to participate actively. Putting them at the centre means not only breaking down physical barriers but also ensuring that they can take part in the initiatives of the civil and ecclesial community and make their contribution. This is facilitated through access to education, employment and leisure areas where they can socialise and express their creativity.

Our cast and crew have been working around the clock this week to bring you our TY Musical. 
Once a year we gather in our Dining Assembly to honour the great cycle of musicals in Coláiste Muire, and we celebrate what it is to be part of the Coláiste Family. Our first show is Monday at 8pm. 
Tickets are selling fast. 
<h3>Film Crew</h3>
On Monday next April 4th 2022, we will have a film crew in Coláiste Muire Cobh. 
This is a PBST/LEAF Project collaboration to promote the message of Edmund Rice all over the world. 
Film crews will be in the school building for the day, filming all aspects of life in Coláiste Muire. We look forward to sharing the final video with you in the coming weeks.

The 16s kick it off on Saturday in Dolphin RFC at noon in their Cup 1/4 final, the Juniors head to Waterford in their quest to top their Munster Junior League section, and the 18.5s aim to create history winning the Munster A Grade Cup in Musgrave Park on Sunday against Waterpark Rfc, K.O. 3p.m. The only Cork team across the 3 Munster finals being played on Sunday. All support to date is hugely appreciated, we know the Great Island and beyond is behind the lads.

Road resurfacing works at the Five Foot Way car park in Cobh commence Monday, April 4th for approximately three days.
Parking restrictions will apply during the works, with no access past the height barrier by the campervan parking site. The remaining car park will be available.

Hi, this is Georgia with my latest staff post.

 This is a photograph I took whilst I was at SIRIUS, depicting the waterfront view of Cork Harbour from the balcony. Cobh in County Cork is well known for its industrial and maritime history. Most notably, it was the last stop the RMS Titanic made before it set off in 1912; the place in which 2.5 million Irish people emigrated to North America between 1848 and 1920; one of the sites in which people were deported to Australia; and from where Annie Moore made her journey across the Atlantic Ocean to New York City, becoming the first person to enter Ellis Island in 1892. Today, it is known for its role in the tourist industry, where multiple cruise ships moor and depart, amongst other things. 
 I am reminded of the Liverpool Biennial (2021) entitled ‘The Stomach and the Port’, which was curated by Manuela Moscoso. The figure of the port is described in the exhibition through the particular corporeal portals of the mouth and the gut. The orifice and digestive organ become descriptors for the functioning of the port, as it acts as an opening for flows between inside and outside, inhalation and exhalation, importation and exportation. The exhibition looks at the effect of water on the human bodies that are displaced, deported or denied entry into territories, examining the central and violent role that the port has played in the slave trade as well as the broader development of capitalism through the framework of the forced movement of both capital and bodies in colonial histories.

We are a small but busy unit that provides medical cover for a variety of events, local and in the greater East Cork region.
Events include Equestrian events, Car Rallies, Football matches, rowing regattas, road races, to name a few.
As you can imagine, the amount of work takes its' toll on the vehicles we use, so we are looking to you for help to keep us on the road. We are currently fundraising for a new ambulance, so we can continue doing the work we love. Anything big or small will help in our eventual goal of attaining a new vehicle and we hope you will join us on that journey!

 We are getting close to race day, and we hear the weather might be just perfect on the day ☀️
We just want to remind to everyone of a few important things;
RACE START TIME IS 10.30am ⏰ 
RACE HQ is Cobh Community Centre
There is no bag drop off facility this year and the HQ will not be open during or after the race. 
We would suggest if you are leaving a jumper or jacket at the start line, just bring an old one. Once the race starts we will gather them all up and bring them to the finish line. 🧥&nbsp;
Please refer to our previous post regarding parking. 🚗&nbsp;
Weather permitting, we will do the prize presentations down at the finish line in the promenade.
We will only presenting 1st-4th Male &amp; Female prizes on the day. All other age category prizes will be posted out early next week. 🏅&nbsp;
There will be no post race refreshments, each runner will receive a good bag after they cross the finish line. Local vendors are also offering discounts to runners in the promenade. 🌭☕️
The Red Cross will be present on the day. 🚑&nbsp;
There are portable toilets at the start and finish line. ��
Please can you be mindful of your rubbish during the race, do not throw empty bottles , gels etc on our roads or in our hedges etc. 
Please do not wear headphones during the race and adhere to all race officials instructions. 🎧&nbsp;
