The Hidden Mountain, the Fort and the Five Trees
Marie Brett’s exhibition The Hidden Mountain, the Fort and the Five Trees features works that consider social, psychological, allegorical, and mystical methods of processing trauma, conflict, and control. The exhibition brings together a commissioned, newly made installation; a group of past films alongside the premiere of her latest film; and an eclectic display of objects, texts, photographs, and videos documenting and reimagining other installations produced in recent years. It is produced by SIRIUS and curated by Miguel Amado, the director of SIRIUS.
WORK
Marie Brett’s filmic output centers on human loss and suffering, the politics of care, and the otherworldly figures and traditions embedded within the Irish psyche. Loan Bush Red Flags: You’ll Not Cut Me (2008) explores the spiritual resonances of the “lone” bush (often a Hawthorn tree). It is often described as a Fairy Tree and believed to have connections with the supernatural, which leads people to treat it with reverence—for instance farmers who divert their routes out of both fear and respect. The film is set on an upland hill farm in West Cork, and depicts multiple willow sticks and red flags moving in the wind around a “lone” bush while a chorus of voices recites the prayer “Hail Mary.” The scene symbolizes the power of the land and the Rosary in Catholicism.

1. Annual 1916 Easter Rising Commemoration/Reading of Proclamation in Garden of Remembrance, Westview this Easter Sunday April 17th commencing 12.30 pm.
2. Wreath laying ceremony/ Reading of Proclamation at the Republican Plot, Old Church Cemetery Easter Monday April 18th beginning 2pm. We remember our fallen patriots Capt. James Aherne, James Glavin, Maurice Moore and Paddy O Sullivan.&nbsp;
Having been somewhat restricted in organising events over the last few years, we hope to see a large crowd in attendance. These are public events and open to all.

My friends,
The horror of war has revisited us in the current military assault by Russia on Ukraine. Its savagery has shocked us. Technology has allowed us to witness destruction and death with an immediacy like never before. It is pitched as a war between dictatorship and democracy. We are rightly anxious and fearful about its potential consequences for the world economy, for civil society and the future of humanity. The tragedy and scandal of this war is that it is being waged by Christians on one another.
We in Ireland know the cost of war and price of peace. It has given us a profound sensitivity to the suffering of the innocent victims of war which has been reflected in the extraordinary and most generous response of our people to the plight of refugees from Ukraine.
Jesus, the crucified Christ, the Risen Lord and Prince of Peace, entrusts the stranger to our care “When I was a stranger you made me welcome” (Matt. 25:31-40). It is a powerful witness to giving and the goodness that flows from the heart of Christ. While there is joy in giving it also has its cost and demand. We do not know how great that demand may be due to the scale of the conflict.
These Easter days have, through marking the Passion of Christ, given us a deep awareness of the suffering of the innocent. However, his self-giving and sacrifice has won the victory of all that is good over death and the evil forces of the world. Again, we are called to pray for
the cause of peace, that those in political and military leadership will see the folly of war and seek a path of respect and dignity.
We give thanks to God for the goodness and generosity of our people. May we be patient and resilient in the demands that lie ahead for one another. Wishing you and yours the blessings of Easter Joy and Peace.

The Seniors are away to Blarney Utd at O'Shea Park in the 1st Round of the John Hayes Trophy on Friday night at 8pm whilst the Junior 'A' side entertain Glasheen at the Old Church Park Stephen Ireland Astro on Saturday in the 2nd Round of the same trophy at 6pm.

Our U15 hurlers gave a great account of themselves this evening against a strong Watergrasshill side. The lads were ahead at half time after some very good team play and performances. Despite losing out in the end the team can take many positives from the game that they can bring to the Féile competition that takes place this weekend. Best of luck lads at Féile

It was a drizzly evening but the herb bed in the trough was only loving it! The parsley is there in abundance along with stunningly scented lemon balm and oregano. The chives are about to bloom too.
