<h2> The reality of the war in Ukraine -----comes to our door</h2>
Ahead of the Feast of the Annunciation, this Friday March the 25th, Pope Francis extended an invitation to every community and all the faithful to unite with him for the Solemn Act of the Consecration of all of humanity, especially Russia and Ukraine, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, so that She - the Queen of Peace - may help us obtain peace.
<h3>Your Invitation</h3>
We invited you to join Bishop William Crean, Bishop of Cloyne in-person in St. Colman's Cathedral Cobh, this Friday evening at 6pm as he led the Diocese in this Act of Consecration. The liturgy was also live-streamed. In churches and parishes, people were invited to spend time in prayer on Friday for peace in Ukraine. Thanks to all who gave up their time and showed solidarity with the people of Ukraine. In the front seat of the cathedral was a Ukranian family, who fled Ukraine just a few weeks ago, a young family of 4 children and their parents, Taras and Victoria Dolynski. The dad a friend of of our Deacon Damien for 17 years and who has good English, told us that he is glad that his family have taken refuge here and the 4 children go to school at Bun Scoil Rinn an Chabhlaigh in Rushbrooke. Children will be children no matter what they go through and it was beautiful to see them after the ceremony making friends with Fr Tom's dog toffee as the picture shows.

There will be a special collection for Ukraine this weekend. The proceeds of this Special Collection will be directed to Caritas Internationalis which is the helping hand of the Church on the ground in Ukraine and surrounding areas.

<h3>Going, going, GONE!! Cobh Triathlon Club </h3>

And that's a wrap.....the bike has found a good home with a triathlete from a club not a million miles away. It sold for in excess of the reserve and all proceeds will go to the Irish Red Cross Ukraine appeal. We at Cobh Tri are delighted and a little bit proud of ourselves that we were able to do this for such a worthy cause. We'd like to thank everyone who shared our post and helped publicise the auction, all those who placed bids or expressed an interest and particularly Tom Moore for all his efforts on behalf of the club and committee. In the interest of respecting the successful bidders privacy that is all we have to say except to wish you well with your new wheels. We'll be watching those results over the season!!

A huge morning for our u6s todays as they played their first game against Highfield RFC in the glorious sunshine. Loads of fun was had by the kids and parents alike. And no better way to round it of than with the tug of war which was eagerly cheered on by some proud Dad's, maybe wishing they too could take part

A tough game today against a good Lakewood team who are currently top of the league. Springfield were slow to start today and couldn't get going. Chances were few and far between. Springfield could have had a penalty in first half but referee waved play on. Lakewood took lead with a good goal after beating 4 players. It was almost all Springfield Ramblers in the second half with two massive chances. Elle O'Donovans fantastic effort was stopped on the line and Isabelle Awans chance went just wide. Not to be today. Brilliant team performance today from the girls to come away with a 3-1 victory against Riverstown. With goals from Alison Brennan, Emily O'Connell and an own goal. Great play as well from Katie Geasley, Nessa Leahy and Sophie O'Neill.

Before this game these teams were four divisions apart but by the end there was only a poorly defended first goal and a second in injury time that separated them. Even though Jamie Bates was the man of the match for Wanderers with a string of outstanding saves, we were never out of the contest throughout the regulation 90 minutes. Wanderers had their fair share of good situations in front of goal but the finishing and sometimes the final ball lacked the quality needed to outgun their premier league opponents. Wanderers fell behind in the 63rd minute when they failed to clear a corner and the ball fell to the 'Hall player four yards out for an easy finish. Bates kept Wanderers in the game right 'till the end when Douglas grabbed the insurance goal in the first minute of injury time. Great effort by all the lads and by Trevor Rowe at the helm today.

There are lots of positive changes happening in Cobh right now through collaboration. Cobh Municipal District Litter Warden, Clodagh launched the recycling bins in the Promenade for recyclables and compostables. Compostable cups only benefit the environment if they are actually composted. Better still is to use a Keep Cup - watch this space!!&nbsp;
Lots of painting, litter picking and enhancement projects going on in glorious weather.
Thanks to the Probation Service for cutting the grass at the Cow's Cross, being careful to leave large patches of Dandelions.The Peregrine Falcon can be heard calling from the spire of St Colman's Cathedral - look at the turrets to see if you can spot it.&nbsp;

Message from Fr Liam
Whe I was publishing the hard copy of Cobh News for over 4 years, which I founded we had a sports Star award every two weeks. Many of them, went on to be household names in the world of sport. Just to name some of the first few, Kate Gardiner for Tennis she has gone on to become one of the best in the country. Timmy Wilk for athletics he has gone on to be be first Polish boy to play hurling for Cork which I predicted he would when he was just 12. Last year he starred for Cork Minors All-Ireland winners for the first time in 20 years and he joint Capt this year. In Consultation with Ber manager of Coral we decided to name Callum Walsh for the first Xplore Local Cobh App award in recognition of his fantastic achievements in his chosen sport boxing and martial arts since he left Cobh for the USA.
