Some pictures just tell a story but the how and why is also a story in itself.

Cobh is blessed with some iconic architecture and streetscapes and our most iconic street is West View. People see photographs of brightly coloured houses on Instagram and Twitter as well as in advertising campaigns promoting “Cork”. Many visitors come to Cobh specifically to see and photograph these houses. When they do, the colours in real life do not reflect the bright colours seen in older photos. A renowned photojournalist wrote about just that. ☹&nbsp;

Through a long process involving Cobh Tidy Towns, the Architect’s Department of Cork County Council and the Dulux Paints Colour Consultant a pleasing palette of compatible colours for painting both the front and back of the houses was presented to the residents and property owners on the street to begin the project. Painting would be funded by Cork County Council through their successful Streetscape Painting Scheme with paint supplied by Dulux Paints.
This project was conceived and driven by Cobh Tidy Towns as one that is enhancing one of our town’s premier tourist attractions.
Phase 1 is now complete and the results are simply stunning – adding the final pieces at the top of the street and transforming the six houses at the bottom of the street.
Phase 2 will start when funding for 2022 becomes available. It will see the backs of 12 more houses being painted – adding a spectacular vista from St Colman’s Cathedral and another Instagrammable place that Cobh can proudly boast of. #lovecobh #colourfulcobh #deckofcards #westview #dulux Cork County Council Pure Cork
