<p>We have great pleasure in awarding the SPORTSTAR OFTHE MONTH FOR AUGUST TO JESSICA BRUTON. Jess on leave from her teaching post at St Mary's girl school in Cobh has been making a name for herself in athletics and especially in Triathlon with Cobh Tri, since she took up the sport and has shown steady progress, culminating in her brilliant performance in Youghal. Her running skills were honed by Trevor in Cobh before she moved on to join Leevale athletic club with whom she has competed regularly in road races and x country with much success.</p>

<p>Now based in  Franfurt in Germany with her fiancee Chris Mintern,  to whom she is now engaged must have played  a huge influence on  her career. Chris was already a star,  with Leevale, in the running circles. He too  had an amazing result at the Ironman in Youghal capturing the overall prize. Both have qualified for the world Ironman at Kona, Hawaii and when questioned about participation there, they felt it was too soon after their exertions in Youghal. There is also  the consideration of the huge cost involved and the consideration of a wedding in the New Year. One thing is certain through,  is their commitment to the sport and individually and collectively,   they have much to look forward to.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Congratulations to Jillian Cronin, Rob Holton and Michelle Kahn who completed the Basketball Ireland Level 1 coaching award over the weekend. Jillian and Michelle will be coaching our U16 girls while Rob will be coaching our U16 Boys.</p>
