<p>Despite the threat of rain a great turn out of volunteers and lots of litter picking, railing painting and sweeping. It’s very disappointing to see the increase in rubbish around the cathedral carpark and in the bushes there along with the return to school. Please take your noodle pots, drink containers and take out food packaging to one of the many street bins around Top of the Hill.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Good to finish the morning with a cuppa and cake in the Promenade. A well earned day off for our volunteers next Saturday as we hit the road for our Roadtrip to visit other towns and meet volunteers to chat all things.&nbsp;</p>

<p>With just under two months to go until the much anticipated return of the Dublin Marathon, Cobh’s Trevor Cummins continues his preparations for that last Sunday in October by heading into a fourth and final week of altitude training in the rarified air of Saint Moritz. Based at 1,800metres above sea level, the Swiss town that has twice played host to the Winter Olympic Games has in recent years established itself as the go-to European destination for endurance athletes. A reflection of its surge in popularity with the world’s best performers is indicated in the fact that more than thirty of this summers medal winners at major athletics championships have used the Alpine location as a training base in recent years.</p>
<p>Just prior to departing for his third stint at altitude, Trevor claimed a silver medal at the National Masters Championships when running in the 5,000m. With temperatures well into the high twenties in Tullamore, times were expectedly slower than normal but the Ballymore-Cobh man was happy to take his place on the podium regardless of the numbers on the clock.&nbsp;</p>
<p>“My track appearances are few and far between so to be able to come here, run strongly on a really nice surface and win a first medal at national level was a great boost ahead of entering into my next block of training.”</p>
<p>Next up on the race calendar is a visit to Newcastle in the north east of England on September 11th where Cummins will race The Great North Run, one of world biggest half-marathons which counts another Cobh athlete, Sonia O’Sullivan, as a two time winner.&nbsp;</p>
<p>“It’s a great opportunity to finally take part in an event that I have watched many times on tv over the years. Half marathons at this stage of the marathon build-up are a good means of measuring your likely target pace for the longer event so it should be revealing from that point of view. All going to plan, I think there is a good chance of improving on my previous best of 74 minutes.”</p>
<p>Following next weekends race, which will be televised on BBC, Trevor will return home to The Great Island from where he plans to complete most of the final stages of preparation for an event in which he made his marathon debut back in 2014. “The fact I ran my first marathon eight years ago in Dublin was a big influence in deciding to go back there this autumn. It’s been nice to take part in overseas marathons in the likes of Amsterdam, Berlin and Seville since then but I think everyone lining up in Dublin this year will have a real heightened level of anticipation with it being the first major marathon on home soil in three years. Hopefully we can all put that sense of occasion to good use on the day.”</p>

<p>The U16’s who travelled to St Fanahan's in the second game of the championship round robin group stage. The girls were trailing at halftime to a better Fanahan's team but put in a much better performance in the second half. Great win 👏👏Well done girls&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
