<h4><span style="color: rgb(184,49,47);">12 months plus in the making and the dream finally became a reality!!!</span></h4>
<p>Two marathons and a 70.3 later the time had come to put my training to the test. <br>The last 6 months were the hardest. Balancing work and training along with Damiens work and his massive commitment to Cobh Ramblers was an Ironman in itself. Damien was out 4 nights a week and away one day at the weekend. I was training Monday to Thursday, rest Friday and then a long cycle Saturday followed by a long run Sunday. <br>We worked together to ensure our boys lives were not disrupted too much. We knew our commitment to what we had passion for was an example to them of what they could achieve if they wanted it. <br>My training plan was done by the experienced Ironman of the family. He had talked the talk and walked the walk so I knew I was in safe hands. The only downfall was he had access to my strava account so if I missed a training session he would know 🤣🤣 Covid hit me in July but it didn't affect me badly and I was back on my feet in no time. <br>The 70.3 in Youghal settled me because it went so well but I wasn't thinking Portugal would go the same way. I had to prep Myself for possible obstacles outside of my control that might occur eg chain break or a puncture. <br>Last Tuesday we set off for Cascais. Excited, anxious, scared and a small sense of self doubt. All normal feelings. <br>Straight to registration on Wednesday, it was shit or bust now boys. 🤣<br>Saturday morning, the day had arrived. It was time to get the game face on. I walked to bike transition with Brendan to throw some fuel on my bike. He had a few words in my ear on the way up and down. That settled me a bit. Back to the house and it was time to gear up. Tri suit on, wetsuit on, chip on. Let's head to the start. To be fair I was quite calm on the way down. I left Damien and Michaela and trotted on my merry way with Brendan. Come into the 1hr 5 min section he says 🤣🤣🤣 Em, f**k right off, I'm heading for the 1hr 20min box thanks very much. Them 10 mins standing in that section waiting to start was a real soul searching moment for me. I cried, I pulled Myself together and cried a bit more. My father was 7 years gone the day before and all I asked of him was to get me home safe whether I was to finish or not. <br>Into the water I went. My Ironman journey had commenced. Shit or bust time. The swim went very well. A few kicks into the face but nothing to worry about. I was more than capable of getting through this swim. <br>Out of the water in 1hr 12mins and a nice little run to transition. Swim gear off, bike gear on. The most worrying part of the three for me. The dreaded bike. The only thing that worried me was I didn't know the route. Two loops of unknown ahead of me. <br>First loop went well. I got through the hilly section of the loop second time round comfortably but then the wind kicked in on the return to Cascais from Lisbon. A few f**ks followed by get me off this bike my hole is killing me and I was into transition. <br>My main aim for the marathon ahead was to run the whole thing. I hadn't walked a section of the previous 5 marathons and I didn't want to do it this time. Onto the run course. Up, up, up, flat for a bit, up, up and then down. Three loops of madness 🤣🤣  I recall singing the Green Fields of France in the darkness at one stage to keep me going. 🤣<br>13 hours later I was heading to the finish. Brian was the first to meet me. Get to the f**kin finish I said to him. Up the last climb and onto the last 200 metres of glory. Cobh Tri Club gang were there to guide me towards the fam bam. My words to my mother "I f**kin did it". I was 100 metres away from hearing the words I'd worked so hard to achieve. <br>BERNADETTE RYAN ROWE YOU ARE AN IRONMAN !!!!<br>I did it but this wasn't a solo journey. This was a massive Team effort from my work buddies to anyone who accompanied me on a training session throughout the last 18 months. You guys got me to where I am today. I am eternally grateful especially to you Jamie 💖<br>Niall Mcdermott thank you for everything you done to fuel and support me. You were always on hand when I needed you. Let's go again. 🤗<br>Brendan, you ignited the spark in me and guided me to the end goal. Thanks Bro. I love you. <br>Ollie, we're so very similar and you always know how to get my feet back on the ground. Raymond, thanks for sorting the hotel 🙏<br>Mam, thanks for all the support you've given to Myself, Damien and the boys. This wouldn't of been possible without you. <br>Mairead and Chloe, thanks for being on hand for the boys when needed. No questions asked. <br>Damien, we've achieved so much this past 12 months. Hup The Rams. Love you.<br>Finally, I'm so lucky to be in a job that I love surrounded by people who support me<br>Coral Leisure Cobh no other centre in the country will ever beat the commitment and support we have for each other. David Moore  thank you for believing in me. <br>I worked for it, I earned it. No regrets. <br>What's next? I'll let ya know in two weeks time. <br>Over and out from Portugal. Job done. <br></p>

<p>Funded by Cork County Council we commissioned craftsman Tony Heaney t_cast_metal_work to craft replica metal decorations for the bandstand in the Promenade as the previous ones had deteriorated and rusted off the poles. He created a mould and made perfect replacements which our volunteers painted up and reattached to complete the refurbishment of the bandstand which began during the summer. Now it’s ready for the lights at Christmas!</p>

<p>The TCS Amsterdam Marathon has been running for over forty years. Its history, however, extends further than 1975 as marathons were run long before then, including the most famous race at the 1928 Olympic Games.<br><br>“Fast &amp; Furious”<br>Johnny Garrett &amp; Peter Gilley took their Ballymore singlets on an adventure this past weekend to run 26.2 miles on this notoriously fast and flat course. <br>To say they pulled a blinder is an understatement!! <br><br>Johnny came in at 3.03<br>Peter came in at 3.14 <br><br>This is incredible, they trained damn hard for this and it clearly all paid off for them. <br><br>Huge Kudos to you both on your incredible times, well earned bling.</p>

You can reserve a place by signing up at the link below. <br><br>The camp is for those aged 8-12 both boys and girls.<br><br>October Mid-term camp in association with MDA will take place Tuesday 1st November – Thursday 3rd November from 10-1 on the Stephen Ireland Astro Turf. Cost is €50.</p>

<h3>First ever open night at Bunscoil Rinn an Chabhlaigh a huge success.</h3>

<p>&nbsp;Despite the torrential rain the car park and playgrounds were full to capacity and all the surrounding roads as well, long before the 6.30pm starting time. From then until 8pm when the Principal Ms Flannery addressed a packed hall there were literally traffic jams with the crowds travelling from room to room getting a view of what the school has to offer. In her address Miss Flannery welcome everyone and was delighted with the turnout of parents, pupils, past pupils and future pupils. It was lovely as well to see old members of the staff and Board of Management including former Principal Donal Kerins. It was brilliant as well to have inputs from 3 of the 6th class pupils and their love of their school was clearly evident.</p>
<h4>Personal thanks</h4>
<p>On a personal note I was delighted to have been invited back to the school which I have many fond memories of during the many hours I spent there mostly involved in sport before I retired and the 2  years I missed out in during the Covid era.  Winning Sciath na Scoil titles in Camogie and Ladie's football.</p>
<h4>I wish the girls every success in the Sciath na Scoil football final next Wednesday. Looking at some  of the achievements of past pupils, some of the names that spring to mind are Kate Gardiner Tennis International at Senior Level.  Amy Duggan basketball International,  Timmy Wilk minor all Ireland hurling medal winner. He was a fantastic athlete and one day here I saw him hurling and predicted he would be the first Polish boy on the Cork Hurling team. In the recent under 14 Tennis Interprovincials, Ava, Cate, Lily and Jessica all who did athletics training in the school,  represented Munster. More recently another outstanding prospect in Rugby Edwin  Edogbo made his first starting debut for Munster after  getting 2 runs off the bench in the  previous 2 weeks. His brother Sean  too is following in his footsteps. It would be interesting to draw up a list of past pupils,  from the school who  are excelling in sport. Thats why i think its important to give   every child an opportunity to take part in sport, that happens in Bunscoil.</h4>
