<p>Everyone's a winner with Merck Curiosity Cube,  at Bunscoil Rinn an Chabhlaigh on Tuesday. Great fun and ice cream for all. Many thanks to Merck and their staff who brought so much joy to the pupils and indeed the teachers, I enjoyed my ice cream too. Of course the  €1,000 donation was most welcome accepted on behalf of the school by Principal Sinead Flannery, Vice Principal Alan Carney and teacher Mari Moynihan.</p>

<p>It was great to see the Garden Festival back again after a few years. Huge crowds, great atmosphere, many food outlets, great selection of goods and services in the pavilions. There was a huge vintage display, mostly cars but some were of dubious vintage age. The children had a field day with bouncy castle, and the many treats on offer must have dug a hole in their parents and guardian resources. While it was uplifting and enlightening to stroll around and make a few purhases. My main interest would have been the gardens and the riot of colour and imaginative lay outs in previous years, but to me  this years  was a letdown. The previous day my appetite was whetted with a two hour visit to Fota Gardens, which  never disappoints. From a gardening point of view there was huge selection of Plants available for purchase in Mallow and that is important. The display of garden layouts fell well short of the standard I had expected. In truth if the layouts of Ballseedy were taken out,  it would be very bare.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Normally I would use the international and National press accreditation I have. I decided when told at the entrance desk that there were no concessions, except for children,  to pay up, I had no problem forking out the €15, considering I had paid €200 to watch the Boston Celtics  at home in Boston a few weeks ago in the playoffs for the Eastern division basketball title, now they are in National finals against Golden State Warriors. They defeated Miami  Heat 4-3 on Sunday, which I watched into the wee hours of Monday morning on TV. I did have an issue when there was no concessions for Seniors on Sunday last in Mallow. The important bottom line was the fact that huge crowds attended the event, over the 3 days and it was wonderful with the glorious weather and hopefully the expectations of  the estimated 70,000 plus attendees,  were met.</p>

<p>Busy club this weekend, great to see events back up and running and more importantly our members out and about too... Ring of Beara, open water swim with Jim, Sunny South East Cycle and @terencedevery flying our colours in Lough Cutra.</p>

<p>Amanda Clarke, who has been researching the narratives and symbolism of holy wells in County Cork and County Kerry , is leading a field trip to a holy well near Cloyne this Saturday 4 June as part of the series of events that we are organising in the context of Marie Brett's exhibition The Hidden Mountain, the Fort and the Five Trees (information below).</p>

<p>On St Brigid’s Day 2016, Amanda Clarke set out to discover the state of County Cork’s holy wells and to record her findings. Three years later she has visited around 300 holy wells in the area, detailing her visits in her comprehensive blog. While many of them are no longer active or neglected, or have even disappeared, the remaining are sometimes a site of pilgrimage for people seeking a source of spiritual comfort. All holy wells “have their stories to tell and individually and collectively provide a fascinating glimpse into a way of life and set of beliefs that are steadily disappearing”.</p>
<p>Amanda Clarke, accompanied by Marie Brett, leads a visit to Lady’s Well near Cloyne, sharing her knowledge and experience along the way. While the Lady’s Well is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, its archaeological and pre-Christian use may be of interest to visitors of all religions and none seeking an area of worship and/or quiet contemplation.</p>
