<p>It's strange at times when you get out and about early in the morning and things happen. After dropping my car at Harrington's garage for a much needed service. I refused a lift back and decided I'd have plenty of time for mass in the Cathedral with Fr Aquin at 10. I decided to drop into St Mary's to meet Miss Hanley and see how preparations  were going for the primary school football blitz arranged for the GAA pitch on Wednesday next. With no sciath Na Scoil football for 3 years because of you no what, the camogie concluded last week. Bunscoil Rushbrooke lost out in the final to Brigid's Midleton at Pairc Rinn 5-5 to 5-2. Football is usually held in the autumn so we have to wait until then, so the blitz gives a chance to the 6th class girls to have games before they leave. There is a huge interest in St Mary's in football and when I was asked to help out, I was delighted to obligate. A fantastic number of 52 turned up for the first session after school and it grew to 56 the next week.</p>

<p>In the school yard two groups were lined up for cycling lessons. I was delighted to see one of the instructors was a camogie legend Fiona O'Driscoll. I have known her for years and marvelled at her longevity in the sport. A brief resume, 6 All-Ireland Senior medals with Cork. Numerous Co Senior medals with her club Fr O'Neill's many coaching stints with club and Cork. It's great to see her still Involved and I think she was equally surprised I was still involved.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I was just back in time for mass, to think about and pray for all starting exams about that time. I was also remembering my  32 classmates who were ordained to the priesthood 54 years ago today, I was ordained on my own in Donoughmore the day after,  a privilege I got because my father was ill. More than half my class have gone to their eternal reward,  I am  so glad that despite setbacks, I can lead such an active life, being involved in sport helps a lot. I put behind me  the disappointment of not being allowed to enter the arena at the Cork Primary school sports at MTU on Friday and not allowed take pictures even of my own schools in Cobh and many other schools that I have been involved in for nearly 5O years. I gave assurances, that I was fully aware of the regulations for taking pictures and I would be fully compliant with them, but to no avail.</p>
<p>Saturday was a total contrast,  I travelled to Tullamore with the CEO of athletics Ireland Hamish Adams,  for the Irish schools athletics finals  and I was treated like royalty,  with no restrictions allowing me to capture over 300 pictures  of a fantastic days sport.&nbsp;</p>
<p>On Sunday after 9.30 mass in Balllymore I spent 6 hours at the   Commodore hotel, having been invited to cover Cove boxing clubs first ever tournament. It was a tremendous success with a capacity audience for the entire day. On reflection it was only my 3rd time ever at a boxing fixture. The first on Barcelona in 1992 for Michael Carruth's gold medal win and the 2nd in London for Katie Taylor's gold, both at ringside, courtesy of my press accreditation, which was valueless on Friday last. But I will move on from the and honour my assertion that I made on Friday when stated that "I quit" something that I thought I would never contemplate before.</p>
<p>I wish the event continued success in catering for so many children over 4,000, with races  run off like clockwork, and an event that has given me so many happy memories down through the years and I know I could never face the stress of it again, with so many restrictions, and I bear no ill will to anyone, and apologize, if I got so annoyed and apologize to all the children and the parents who had asked me to take pictures.&nbsp;</p>
<p>On a lighter note I travelled to Whitechurch last night  Tuesday with a parent for an under 12 football game to play Rockban, a club I was a founding member of, when I was a curate in Whitechurch. We were there and they were in Cobh due to their misunderstanding. Undaunted despite the rain the girls enjoyed themselves in the playground and it was so uplifting, despite not getting to play the game they had great fun and to me that is what sport and even life is about.</p>

<p>Well done springfield under 12s who drew a pulsating game at home to Leeds to stamp their premier league survival. Onward and upward for next season. Well done boys.</p>

<p>Mr. Stephenson's 6th Class we're delighted to receive an invitation to meet with Minister for Education, Norma Foley yesterday to celebrate the achievements of Lily Fleming in winning the National BLAST (Bringing Love Artists to Students and Teachers) Competition!</p>
<p>As part of the trip, we received a fantastic tour of The Crawford Art Gallery and viewed some amazing Irish exhibitions!</p>
<p>We are thankful for Minister Foley's team who arranged the visit and grateful to Michael Waldron for being our guide around the gallery!</p>

<p>Thank you to Clare from Viatris and Ruth from Cobh Tidy Towns who came down to Whitepoint yesterday to unveil our fabulous new biodiversity sign at Whitepoint just in time for #WorldOceansDay2022&nbsp;</p>
<p>This is the third biodiversity sign Viatris have erected here in Cork Harbour with one at Cuskinny and another at Fota Scout Hall.</p>
