<p>Currently open at Cobh Library is Rendered: A collection of paintings in acrylic, pigments and plaster. This is Theresa Cullinane's first solo exhibition and we wish her every success. The exhibition runs for the month of June. Free admission.</p>

<p>Helping hands to ensure the greens in the tunnel at St Mary's were watered earlier on Tuesday before the rains came down.</p>

<p>Good fun but no game. The under 12 girls travelled to Whitechurch on a miserable  wet  Tuesday evening to play Rockban in a football league. On arrival there was no sign of the opposition, frantic phone calls discovered that Rockban had arrived in Cobh thinking erroneously that the game was fixed for Cobh, when it was fixed for Whitechurch. The girls despite the rain, made most of the visit and enjoyed themselves on the various attractions on the playground.</p>

<p>Well done to our U12s Footballers  who won the Aghada ‘Billy Ahern Memorial tournament’ today. Thanks to Aghada GAA for inviting us and to a well run tournament. The lads had great wins against Mayfield, St Colmcilles and Glenville in the group matches. We played Lisgoold in the semi final and put in a great performance make the final. The final turned out to be a very close encounter between ourselves and Killeagh, which could have went either way, but the lads should great resilience to come through it. Cobh Abú&nbsp;</p>

<p>Molleigh, Aisling, Caoimhe, Daire, Alfie &amp; Charlie were all in the mix across a variety of running, jumping and throwing events.</p>
<p>Well done to them &amp; our hosts who laid on a fun filled afternoon of athletics in Ballinspittle.</p>
<p>&nbsp;Congrats to Caoimhe who represented  her  school St Al's at the All-Ireland schools 1,500m in Tullamore on Saturday last. Caoimhe ran a pb of 5,01m a great result for this relative newcomer to the sport. Alfie had a tremendous win at the Cork Primary school sports at MTU Bishopstown on Saturday, after winning his section he went on to the quarter, Semi and final to become overall Co Champion.</p>

<p>Final game of season this Tuesday  for Springfield Ramblers under 12 v Leeds great to see a huge crowd turning up to support this wonderful group, on a wet miserable evening.</p>

<p>We had a fantastic event with Amanda Clarke this past Saturday, 4 June, as part of Marie Brett's exhibition The Hidden Mountain, The Fort and the Five Trees, which we are currently presenting. She led a field trip to a holy well near Cloyne, which a curious group attended despite the rain and cold. As she mentioned, all holy wells “have their stories to tell and individually and collectively provide a fascinating glimpse into a way of life that is steadily disappearing”. The participants discussed with her various topics, from the pre-Christian use of such sites to the devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary that characterises this particular site, which is still active as a pilgrimage location. Some also made their offerings and collected water, typical ritualistic activities for people seeking a source of spiritual comfort.</p>

<p>SIRIUS is organising a workshop for Cruinniú na nÓg, a day that celebrates the creative potential of children and young people. This is a free session led by Lucia Taeubler, an experienced educator, who enables everyone to focus on their creativity and expression and helps trigger their curiosity to explore!</p>
<p>We can see symbols everywhere. They explain a particular procedure or narrate a specific story when we look around. In Marie Brett's exhibition, currently on view at SIRIUS, we find symbols in animal heads made out of willow, objects pinned to the gallery wall, and natural materials we encounter daily.</p>
<p>We have to know the background and heritage of symbols to decipher them with our peers and imagine new ones. Participants in this workshop look at symbols in their surroundings to ask what they represent and create their secret codes, alphabets, and signs.</p>
