<p>Ireland Team announced for Billie Jean King Cup Europe/Africa Group III which takes place in Skopje, North Macedonia from 4th-9th July  After falling just short of promotion in 2021, Ireland are the no.1 seeds in their group, and only one nation will be promoted to Group II for 2023💪</p>
<p>Congratulations to the players and very best of luck to John and the team next month!</p>

<p>Personally I am delighted for Kate, having  know her since her Primary School days at Bunscoil Rinn an Chabhlaigh in Rusbrooke. She excelled at the sports she took part in  at school, Athletics, a promising high jumper. Football and camiogie. It was obvious at that stage that her love of tennis would win out over the rest and so it has come to pass, with the biggest honour of her career being selected for the Irish team. When I was producing the hard copy of Cobh News every 2 weeks we had the monthly award for an aspiring and successful sports star. Kate was the first award winner followed by Timmy Wilk the first Polish boy to play for Cork and who helped them to the All-Ireland Minor title in 2021 as a 16 year old and was selected as one of the top 15  minor hurlers in the Country.&nbsp;</p>
<p>After providing the finance with Cobh Credit Union to set up Xplore Local Cobh App which has nearly 200 listings of every aspect of Cobh and daily news update, it was a no brainier to re establish the award under the auspices of the App and sponsored by Ber Rowe of Coral leisure . Rising boxing star Callum Walsh was the March winner. Amy Duggan for April another talented Sports star with achievements for  camogie, football and now she has been selected for the Irish under 18 basketball team,  with games at International level including Bulgaria. St Mary's NS teacher  Jess Bruton on a break from teaching,  has qualified for the world Triathlon finals,  is pencilled in for May and Kate Gardiner at this early stage of June is the front runner er for the June award. Kate a university student in England and by her tennis exploits has catapulted her college to the top of the university rankings in England and we will will keep you posted on the progress of this remarkable young lady, the pride of Rushbrooke tennis club.</p>

<p>2nd week at St Mary’s NS for our coaches Charlotte and Joey. Another great morning with lots of enthusiastic students who gave rugby a try and had heaps of fun. Cobh Pirates Give Rugby a Try sessions run for another 4 weeks at the club on Saturday mornings, and all girls aged 7-13 are very welcome to join in.</p>

<p>We were thrilled to have World Irish Dancing Trophies in Coláiste Muire last week. Thank you to Aimee and Ciara for bringing them in.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Both girls were very successful in the World Irish Dancing Championships this year, winning titles in the Four Hand Reel and The Figure.&nbsp;</p>
<p>They are pictured here with their brother Odhran who had his own success with Cobh Pirates this season too.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>Irish  Heart Foundation Open Weekend</h3>
<p>&nbsp;On the first weekend in July (Friday to Sunday, Cobh Golf Club will hold a large Annual Fundraiser Competitio in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation and to support the further development of the Club</p>
<p>BRS booking has just been opened for this weekend.</p>
<p>Amazing prizes will include A brand-new, lithium battery powered Golfcad trolley, Green Fees for the ‘Old Head’ of Kinsale, and Hotel Vouchers worth €500, €300 and €200!</p>
<p>The competition will be in Single, Stableford format and will cost €35 for visitors and €20 for members (Ladies and Gents)..</p>
<p>A Raffle for a hamper with 2 Green Fees for the Old Head, a box of Pro V1 balls and further Golf merchandise will also be held. Lines can be bought (1 for €5 and 3 for €10) in the Pro Shop!</p>
<p>Special thanks go to Steve McCormack and Michael O’Connell, whose support and sponsorship are greatly appreciated and made this Fundraiser weekend possible.</p>
