<p>It was a very early start on Sunday morning.&nbsp;</p>
<p>This time we traveled to Kilcormac Co Offaly were we had such a warm friendly welcome from Kilcormac Killoughey A.C. 6 of our members took part in their Jack Cox 10k road race.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Stunning country roads filled with encouragement aloud for PB’s.</p>

<h3>SIRIUS Summer School: day one</h3>

<p>Gregory Sholette introduces key concepts from his forthcoming book The Art of Activism and Activism of Art, which Lund Humphries is publishing this September. Sholette discusses the notion of “the phantom archive,” which serves as a critique of the tools involved in historicising and representing art activism, and traces the ‘backstory’ of protest aesthetics from the 1960s to the 2020s. He refers to examples such as International Situationism, Occupy movement, and Black Lives Matter. He also looks and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. He discuss the integration of art work with other types of work and the role art workers (including artists) play in forms of resistance.</p>
<p>SIRIUS Summer School</p>
<p>Art and Politics with Gregory Sholette</p>
<p>SIRIUS Summer School, produced by SIRIUS in Cobh, County Cork, examines the relationship between art and politics. Gregory Sholette conducts the inaugural edition, which addresses the processes and urgencies that have facilitated activism by artists and activist forms of art. Sholette leads participants in exploring the political role of artists today, for instance in Black Lives Matter and Liberate Tate, and over the past several decades. The group unpacks such themes as protest aesthetics, historical and market invisibility, and exploitative creative labor via a body of scholarly work, which ranges from Sholette’s classical notions of artistic “dark matter” and “bare art” to new concepts such as the “unpresent” and perspectives on decolonization and “deviant” curating. The sessions evolve through theoretical and methodological debates in the form of presentations, group readings and discussions, and self-inquiry.</p>
